In this role, you will be a key contributor to the evolution of our core product: an elastic, large-scale, high-performance data processing system. We are looking for smart, enthusiastic engineers who can quickly master complex technical areas and are passionate about building new, industry-leading technologies.\r\nAS A STAFF SOFTWARE ENGINEER AT SNOWFLAKE, YOU WILL:\r\nDesign and implement novel query optimization or distributed data processing algorithms to maintain Snowflake's industry-leading data warehousing capabilities.\r\nDesign, develop, and support a petabyte-scale cloud database system, ensuring it is highly parallel and fault-tolerant.\r\nDevelop and implement the new service architecture required to enable the next generation of the Snowflake Data Cloud.\r\nAnalyze, understand, and resolve complex performance and scalability bottlenecks within the system.\r\nOwn the end-to-end delivery of your projects, including identifying solutions, design, implementation, rigorous testing, and safe production rollout.\r\nEnsure operational readiness and execute production operations of services, meeting our customer commitments for durability, availability, and performance.\r\nBuild high-quality, highly reliable software that meets the demands of the world's largest companies.\r\nDevelop tools to provide customers with greater insight into their workloads.\r\nEvangelize best practices for database usage and end-to-end system architecture.\r\nMentor and support the professional growth of junior engineers on the team.\r\nOUR IDEAL SOFTWARE ENGINEER WILL HAVE\r\n10+ years of industry experience working on commercial or open-source software.\r\nStrong fluency in Java or C++.\r\nExcellent problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.\r\nStrong systems programming skills, including experience with multi-threading and concurrency.\r\nA solid foundation in distributed systems concepts (e.g., consistency, scaling, failure recovery).\r\nExperience with implementation testing, debugging, and documentation, specifically within a Linux development environment.\r\nBachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.\r\nBONUS POINTS FOR EXPERIENCE WITH THE FOLLOWING\r\nSQL or other database technologies including internal design and implementation.\r\nQuery optimization, query execution, compiler design and implementation.\r\nExperience with internals of distributed key value stores like FoundationDB and storage engines like RocksDB, InnoDB, BerkeleyDB etc.\r\nExperience with MySQL, PostgreSQL internals.\r\nData warehouse design, database systems, and large-scale data processing solutions like Hadoop and Spark.\r\nExperience in database replication technology.\r\nBig data storage technologies and their applications, e.g., HDFS, Cassandra, Columnar Databases, etc.\r\nEvery Snowflake employee is expected to follow the company's confidentiality and security standards for handling sensitive data.
