The position operates upstream of production and is not responsible for sustaining engineering or day‑to‑day manufacturing support.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\nAdvanced Technology & Architecture Development\nDefine and develop next‑generation optical and optoelectronic packaging architectures.\nLead architectural trade studies considering optical performance, materials behavior, and future scalability.\nEstablish technology concepts that enable future product families and platforms.\nResearch & Early‑Stage Development\nResearch emerging materials, processes, and assembly technologies aligned with long‑term company roadmaps.\nLead feasibility studies, proof‑of‑concept efforts, and early‑stage demonstrations.\nEvaluate technology readiness levels and define pathways for maturation.\nCharacterization & Reliability Strategy\nDefine characterization and reliability evaluation methodologies for early‑stage technologies.\nAnalyze optical, mechanical, and thermal data to inform design decisions.\nIdentify technical risks and failure mechanisms early in development.\nTechnology Strategy & Roadmapping\nContribute to long‑term optics and optoelectronics technology roadmaps.\nIdentify capability gaps and propose strategic development initiatives.\nSupport senior leadership through technical reviews and risk assessments.\nExternal Collaboration\nIdentify, evaluate, and partner with material suppliers, equipment vendors, and research institutions.\nLead joint development initiatives with external partners.\nInfluence external technology roadmaps to align with future needs.\nTechnical Leadership\nServe as a recognized technical authority for advanced optical technologies.\nContribute to intellectual property, publications, and technical knowledge growth.\nMentor engineers on advanced technology concepts.\nRequired Education\nBS in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field required.\nMS or Ph.D. preferred.\nRequired Experience\n15+ years of experience in optical, optoelectronic, or advanced microelectronics development.\nExtensive background in materials, packaging architectures, and advanced process development.\nDemonstrated experience creating and maturing new technologies from concept through early validation.\nProven record of technical leadership and independent problem solving.\nSalary and benefit offerings:\nThe preferred location for this position is the Samtec Vista Design Center in San Diego/Vista, CA.
