Process Modeling Engineer
Job Title: Process Modeling EngineerLocation: Corning NY 14831Duration: 12 months | Potential to extendShift: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, M-F 40 hours Responsibilities:-• Model new processes and process conditions to improve product performance and reduce costs for glass and/or ceramic substrates and filters.• Develop and apply analytical and numerical models (e.g., solid mechanics–based simulations) to build fundamental understanding of process and material behavior.• Communicate results clearly and collaborate effectively with a globally distributed team of researchers and engineers, as well as commercial partners and customer• Use solid mechanics (analytical methods and FEA/BEM) to predict and mitigate thermo-mechanical stress, deformation/warpage, residual stress in glass/ceramic components.• Build transient thermal–stress models of process cycles (heating/cooling) to quantify stress evolution and identify robust process windows.• Simulate contact, fixturing, and handling to reduce local overstress, damage risk, and dimensional variability.• Evaluate thin film/coating stresses and interfacial delamination risk to inform layer design and processing conditions.• Provide mentorship and recommendations on new capabilities and method development related to mechanical testing and measurements.• Engage with the businesses, as needed, to address customer questions and support product engineering problem solving.• Write technical reports, invention disclosures, and publications.Requirements:- • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software (commercial and/or open-source).• M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline with 4+ years of experience in a similar field OR Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline with 0+ years of experience• Good knowledge of the mechanical behavior of soft materials (e.g., gels, polymers).• Flexibility is required; up to 10% travel.• Ability to analyze problems and reduce them to mathematical models; design and carry out experiments to validate models; derive numerical/technology solutions; and make recommendations.• Strong mathematical and programming skills supporting FEA and boundary element method (BEM) modeling using commercial software packages (e.g., Abaqus, Ansys).• Experience with structural thin film mechanics while focusing on material modeling and characterization.• Experience with process and product engineering• Knowledge of a range of materials test techniques.• Ability to lead product performance data evaluations, experiments, and data analysis with cross-functional partners.• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including effective presentation skills.• Proven ability to work across multiple cultures on a globally dispersed and diverse team.• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize effectively.• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills demonstrated through resolving product and/or process issues.
