The Project Controller plays a critical role in overseeing the financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring alignment with budgetary goals and project schedules. This role involves budgeting, cost tracking, financial reporting, contract management, and risk mitigation to maintain financial control and project efficiency for a large data center construction project. The Project Controller collaborates closely with Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and Finance teams to provide accurate reporting, proactive financial analysis, and strategic decision support.\nWhat You'll Do:\nKey Responsibilities:\nBudgeting & Forecasting\nDevelop and manage project budgets, including detailed cost breakdowns for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.\nAssist in setting up Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in coordination with Project Managers and corporate Major Projects structure.\nLead forecasting efforts in collaboration with Project Managers and Construction Managers.\nMonitor and adjust project cost-to-complete estimates to reflect actual expenditures and forecast future costs.\nIdentify budget variances and implement corrective actions to maintain financial integrity.\nCost Tracking & Analysis\nMonitor actual project costs against budget and provide variance analysis.\nTrack and report cost drivers affecting financial performance.\nEnsure financial data is accurately recorded in Ecosys and other financial management systems.\nVerify weekly costs and financial postings, ensuring correct coding and categorization.\nIdentify cost-saving opportunities to improve overall project profitability.\nFinancial & Progress Reporting\nGenerate detailed financial reports, such as income statements, cash flow analysis, variance reports, balance sheets (as applicable)\nTrack project progress against the schedule and provide weekly and monthly reports on cost and schedule performance.\nProvide trend analysis on actual vs. budgeted costs and performance indicators.\nSupport the monthly risk registry update, identifying financial and operational risks.\nContract & Change Order Management\nReview and manage contracts with vendors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with financial and legal terms.\nTrack and process change orders, assessing their financial impact and coordinating approvals.\nWork with legal and project teams to negotiate contract terms when needed.\nMonitor project cash flow to ensure timely invoicing and collections.\nMaintain compliance with contractual obligations, ensuring adherence to budget and project timelines.\nRisk Management & Compliance\nIdentify potential financial risks and develop mitigation strategies.\nEnsure adherence to company financial policies, internal controls, and accounting standards.\nAssist in internal and external project audits, ensuring compliance with construction accounting principles.\nMonitor Accounts Receivable Aging Reports, Days Sales Outstanding (DSO), and retainage receivables to improve cash flow management.\nCollaboration & Communication\nWork closely with the Project Manager, Site Supervisors, Finance, and Procurement teams to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.\nParticipate in monthly job review meetings with key stakeholders, providing insights on financial health, forecasting accuracy, and risk exposure.\nSupport RFQ (Request for Quote) and RFI (Request for Information) processes by providing financial input on project feasibility.\nParticipate in team strategy meetings to discuss cost control measures and project efficiencies.\nWhat You'll Bring:\nQualifications & Experience:\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or a related field.\nMBA, MFPA, or advanced financial certifications preferred.\n3-5 years of experience in project accounting, construction finance, or project cost control.\nStrong knowledge of construction accounting principles, budgeting, and forecasting.\nExperience with high-voltage transmission & distribution construction projects is a plus.\nProficiency in JDE, SAP, or other financial management systems.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with expertise in variance analysis.\nAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).\nProficiency in project management software and financial reporting tools.\nUnderstanding of construction contracts, legal compliance, and financial risk management.\nWhat You'll Get:\nAt Probst Electric Inc., a proud subsidiary of Quanta Services (NYSE: PWR), you’ll join a team that takes pride in delivering high‑voltage transmission construction, design‑build solutions, and maintenance services for public and private utilities.
