Work in the RPIU is about disrupting criminals and organised criminals within a prison setting. Operating in partnership with other intelligence professionals you will aim to prevent, disrupt, and deter those causing the most harm.This role will require you to work in prison establishments to help ensure the gathering of intelligence is shared effectively with relevant agencies. You will work closely with other Prison Intelligence Officers, His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and other law enforcement agencies.There will be a requirement to conduct prisoner de-briefings, process and disseminate intelligence, compile risk assessments on prisoners soon to be released and liaise with the wider police service as appropriate. You will also deliver briefings to and attend meetings with HMPPS staff, so good communication skills will be needed.Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to make balanced rational decisions are required and you will also need to demonstrate ability to operate effectively within a multi-agency environment. You will need to be computer literate and hold a full current driving licence.It is essential that you have a thorough working knowledge of the National Intelligence Model as well as an understanding of the management of police information and of prison rules as regards prison environment.You will be an ambassador for the police service and expected to work with minimal supervision for much of the time.SWROCU is a collaboration of police officers and police staff from the five South West regional forces.
