We apply science and engineering to design transformational technologies.\n\nAbout The Job\n\nDesign and development of high‑current and high‑voltage power supplies from concept to completion.\n\nModeling power electronics system designs and topologies to support power supply development.\n\nDevelopment of control and protection algorithms for both loads and power supplies.\n\nSimulation of grid‑connected systems ensuring designs meet utility requirements.\n\nSafety engineering of high‑voltage and high‑current power supplies.\n\nLiaising with potential vendors for development and supply of equipment.\n\nContract award and project management throughout the project life cycle.\n\nAbout You\n\n4+ years’ experience of power electronics design and/or modeling experience gained on large high‑voltage or high‑current systems.\n\nTopology design and modeling supporting power electronic systems development.\n\nDevelopment of models and control algorithms for regulation and protection.\n\nAwareness of EMI/EMC issues caused by large electrical loads and grounding issues.\n\nIntegration and connection of grid‑connected systems meeting utility requirements.\n\nExperience of superconducting magnets, their power supplies and protection would be a plus.\n\nDesign of safety features ensuring both equipment and personnel safety.\n\nProject Experience\n\nDesign and development of high‑voltage or high‑current systems.\n\nPower quality analysis for grid‑connected systems.\n\nLiaison with power electronic system vendors, custom equipment and suppliers.\n\nManagement of contracts from concept to completion is a plus.\n\nSoftware Knowledge and Skills Required\n\nSkilled in MATLAB/Simulink and Python in the support of power electronics designs.\n\nFPGA based control algorithm development.\n\nKnowledge of LabVIEW is a plus but not essential.\n\nOther Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities\n\nUse of AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical etc. for design and documentation of systems.\n\nExperience of Altium or similar software for schematic capture/PCB layout is a plus.\n\nAbility to work independently as well as collaboratively with other scientists and engineers.\n\nAccuracy and the ability to identify and correct shortcomings in proposals and designs.\n\nAbility to rapidly gain new knowledge of unique electrical loads and systems.\n\nOther Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities\n\nInterest in large science or R&D projects.\n\nBackground knowledge of very high current and high voltage systems, their risks and safety factors.\n\nEducation\nBachelors required, Electrical Engineering preferred with an emphasis on power electronics.\n\nThe total compensation package for this position may also include other elements depending on the position offered (non‑Sr., Sr., Lead or Manager).
