assist in the types and quantities of plants and materials to be purchased; work within budgeting parameters to meet operating budget goals.\n\nSupervise seasonal help with watering schedules and setup and takedown of the Fair.\n\nWater, plant, prune, fertilize and control pests on all plants.\n\nAssist with all greenhouse operations including seeding and harvesting, management of system reservoirs and vine crop training.\n\nAssist with all elements of mushroom production including genetic work, creating inoculation bags, making substrate bags, inoculation, systems maintenance and harvesting.\n\nLoad and unload plants and materials.\n\nOperate and maneuver heavy machinery including tractors, forklifts, and man lifts safely in various conditions throughout the park.\n\nWork additional hours immediately before and during the State Fair performing other duties (e.g., ticket taking, coupon sales, guest relations, etc.).\n\nUtilize satisfactory communication skills when interacting with staff and State Fair visitors, providing clear information and assistance related to the Greenhouse exhibits and activities.\n\nMarginal Functions\n\nSupport the Mission Statement of the State Fair of Texas.\n\nPerform related duties and responsibilities as required and other duties as assigned.\n\nComply with all internal, state and federal regulations.\n\nComply with all safety regulations and company policies.\n\nComplete all training as directed by management.\n\nQualifications\nKnowledge Of\n\nComputer usage and Microsoft Office (or comparable) products.\n\nPlant types and proper atmospheres needed for each.\n\nPlanting practices and procedures.\n\nIrrigation practices.\n\nFertilizer, plant disease, and pests.\n\nAbility To\n\nUtilize a variety of negotiating, communication, and economic skills.\n\nWork with others in a manner that most cost‑effectively benefits the SFT.\n\nCommunicate clearly and concisely.\n\nWork effectively to deal with time sensitive deadlines.\n\nPreferred Education and/or Experience\n\nHigh School diploma.\n\nOne to three years’ experience in the landscaping industry.\n\nLicense or Certification\n\nLandscape certifications.\n\nFork Lift driver certification.\n\nSupervision Received and Exercised\n\nReports to Director – Horticulture.\n\nWorks under direct and continuous supervision for assignments.\n\nWorking Conditions\nEnvironmental Conditions\n\nOffice environment; exposure to computer screens.\n\nWorking outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven and/or slippery surfaces, as necessary, especially during Fair time and special events.\n\nWork in greenhouse and warehouse with sharp objects, heavy merchandise, work with electrical energy;
