In this role, you will support mission-critical systems for the NASA Ocean Biology Distributed Active Archive Center (OB.DAAC), which archives, manages, and distributes satellite and in-situ data used for Earth science research, climate studies, and environmental monitoring. You will contribute to applications that support scientific data access, processing, and analysis. The ideal candidate has experience building scalable web applications, developing APIs, working with databases, and deploying applications in cloud environments, with an interest in supporting scientific research and government missions.\nKey Responsibilities:\nDesign, develop, test, and maintain full-stack web applications.\nBuild responsive user interfaces and robust backend services.\nDevelop applications that retrieve, process, and present data from relational and cloud-hosted databases.\nDesign and implement RESTful APIs and other service integrations.\nCollaborate with business analysts, system architects, and other developers to translate requirements into technical solutions.\nParticipate in code reviews and contribute to software quality, security, and performance improvements.\nTroubleshoot application issues and implement enhancements.\nSupport application deployment, monitoring, and maintenance within cloud environments.\nFollow software development best practices, including version control, testing, and documentation.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s (B.S.) degree and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or development, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.\nExperience developing full-stack web applications.\nStrong experience working with relational databases and writing efficient SQL queries.\nExperience building applications that consume and expose REST APIs.\nProficiency in one or more modern backend programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, or Node.js.\nExperience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.\nFamiliarity with Git and collaborative software development practices.\nUnderstanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, and secure coding principles.\nDesired Qualifications\nDegree specifically in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a closely related technical discipline.\nExperience developing and deploying applications in Amazon Web Services (AWS).\nAWS certifications such as AWS Certified Developer – Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, or similar.\nDemonstrated AWS experience through professional projects, open-source contributions, or personal portfolio work.\nExperience with cloud-native services including Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, or CloudFormation.\nExperience working within large enterprise environments with mature software development practices.\nPrevious experience supporting NASA programs, federal government contracts, aerospace organizations, or other mission-critical environments.\nExperience with DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines.\nFamiliarity with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.\n\nNote: The actual salary offered will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications, and other job-related criteria deemed relevant to the position.\nPhysical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to touch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
