What To ExpectThe Staff Manufacturing Equipment Engineer is primarily responsible for the equipment technologies used for a program. They will be the main coordinator between vendors and Tesla for driving business needs for various products and sourcing the most suitable equipment for processes. They will lead a team of equipment engineers responsible for driving OEE improvements, equipment production readiness, and KPI metrics tracking of production machines. They will drive safety buyoffs for factory compliance and safety improvements. The Staff Manufacturing Equipment Engineer will work closely with cross functional teams to improve quality, safety, first pass yield, output rate, and equipment availability.What You'll DoDefine and oversee Factory Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test of manufacturing equipmentOptimize product flow and line efficiency by designing or improving tools, jigs, stations, work methods and ergonomics using the 5S methodologyCharacterize baseline performance and capability of each system and drive actions to maintain or improve performance as measured by product quality and tool availabilityIdentify and drive continuous improvement, automation, and cost reduction programsDrive process control and process development, specifically in the areas of quality and equipment capabilityWork independently and with vendors to understand root cause of failures, propose design or component changes, and implement and validate equipment modificationsUtilize knowledge of electrical and mechanical assemblies to predict equipment failure modes and proactively set and establish preventative maintenance schedulesPerform trials through engineering change control to test the effect of equipment improvementsActively use data visualization tools to quantitatively evaluate and track machine performance and create programs to improve relevant metricsDrive other projects as needed by management or as business needs changeWhat You'll BringBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience5+ years of hands-on mechanical and electrical experience in a production environmentProficiency with electrical and pneumatic schematics and creation in tools like AutoCAD & EPLANExperience with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD softwareUnderstanding of automation systems, mechanical engineering, robotics, PLCs, data collection systemsExcellent interpersonal skills to effectively achieve positive results with multiple vendors and meeting timelines and budgetsStrong hands-on experience with high-volume and pilot manufacturingAble to maintain organization and focus in a highly dynamic environment.
