This position develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with district curriculum and Missouri Learning Standards while fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom culture. The Elementary Special Education Teacher collaborates with general education teachers, families, and support staff to promote student growth, independence, and achievement.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInstruction and CurriculumDevelop and implement standards-based instruction aligned with district curriculum and Missouri Learning StandardsDevelop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)Provide specialized instruction in academic, behavioral, and functional skill areasUtilize evidence-based instructional strategies and assistive technology when appropriateMonitor student progress and adjust instruction based on data and IEP goalsClassroom Environment and Student SupportCreate and maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environmentImplement behavior intervention plans and positive behavior supportsSupport students' social-emotional development and self-advocacy skillsCollaborate with related service providers to ensure appropriate accommodations and modificationsAssessment and CommunicationConduct ongoing progress monitoring and maintain accurate IEP documentationMaintain accurate student records in compliance with state and federal regulationsCommunicate regularly with families regarding student progress and programmingParticipate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and parent-teacher conferencesCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support student successCollaboration and Professional ResponsibilitiesWork collaboratively with grade-level teams, special education staff, and school personnelParticipate in professional development and school improvement initiativesOTHER JOB FUNCTIONSAbide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.Attend meetings as assigned.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.Remain current on instructional practices in education.Performs other duties as assigned by the Building PrincipalKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESStrong instructional planning and classroom management skillsEffective communication and collaboration abilitiesKnowledge of Missouri Learning StandardsAbility to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleaguesOrganizational and time-management skillsWORK ENVIRONMENTAbility to move throughout the classroom and school environmentAbility to supervise students indoors and outdoorsOccasional lifting of instructional materials or equipmentParticipation in school events or meetings outside of regular hours as neededATTENDANCEConsistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this positionFLSA StatusExemptSalary GradeCertifiedTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 month contract yearAnnual contract for school year and Extended School Year, if applicable, in accordance with the provisions of Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified staff.Background clearance required; the results of which must be satisfactory to the District.EVALUATION:Performance will be evaluated by the Building Principal in accordance with district policies and teacher evaluation procedures.Applications will be screened as they are submitted.
