POSITION: Nutritionist IIStarting Salary: $44,693.00 (Pay Grade 67)Open Date: September 5, 2025Closing Date: Open Until FilledDuties and Responsibilities:Provide comprehensive nutritional counseling (initial and follow-up) for clients within the health department and clients referred for nutritional services which include clients receiving Prenatal, Child, Health and WIC services. Nutritional counseling is based on anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, dietary, and ecosocial data.Determine program eligibility of applicants to the WIC program based on nutritional data and financial guidelines set by state and local agencies.Documentation of all nutrition related services provided to clients in medical records. Documentation must be current, accurate and in chronological order.Formulate, implement, and evaluate nutrition related group classes, which are appropriate for child health, prenatal and postpartum clients.Schedule WIC appointments to coincide with other health department services. Refer clients to appropriate clinics for patients needing additional health department services.Recommend and expedite referrals for clients and families to appropriate agency organization for cohesive delivery of necessary services (such as Food Stamps, Work First, and Medicaid, etc.)Provide breastfeeding education to prenatal women and breastfeeding mothers and refer as needed to physician.Offer nutrition education programs to groups such as Head Start, Weight Watchers, schools, and health fairs.Promote community knowledge of WIC awareness and participation by eligible residents. Design and implement community projects for local agencies, schools, and other organizations.Participate and/or attend nutrition related seminars, workshops, and updates to expand nutrition, WIC public health and counseling knowledge and skills.Execute other activities as assigned by the WIC Director, Nursing Supervisor, or Health DirectorKnowledge and Skills:Specialized knowledge and skills in comprehensive nutrition assessment and care planning, including program diagnosis, counseling, and evaluation of clients from diverse backgrounds, ages, and with multiple and complex health and therapeutic nutritional needs. Knowledge of human behavior and techniques for effective behavior change with considerable skills in counseling. Broad knowledge in health care ethics, documentation in the medical record, and quality assurance. Knowledge in organization of community health and nutrition resources. Sophisticated knowledge of current scientific information regarding nutrition, diet and health and the ability to relate this information to clients, professionals, and the general public. Skills in conducting a nutrition education or community needs assessment. Fundamental knowledge of current principles and practices of public health, and program coordination. Ability to interpret policy and protocols into operational procedures and work priorities.
