Medical Assistant

The UMMG Department is currently seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant 2 to work onsite in Palm Beach Gardens. The Medical Assistant 2 will perform multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The MA 2 shall assist patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The MA 2 provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 2 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic.The MA 2 shall adhere to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond toemergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The MA 2 provides care within the philosophy,mission, vision and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department ofNursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided andnurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The MA 2 works directly with the NurseManager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic toensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission.CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient's medical record.Administers injections or treatments, performs routine laboratory tests, and assists in other patient care activities, such as dressing changes and leg wraps.Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing the principles of sterile technique.Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.CORE QUALIFICATIONSEducation:High school diploma or equivalentMedical Assistant certificate of completion - Program or institute must be accredited by a regional or national accreditation agency, approved by the US Department of Education, or affiliated.*Credentialed Medical Assistant certification from a recognized accredited or certified body organization (See Certification and Licensing list below).*Note: If the Medical Assistant has not obtained a recognized Credentialed Medical Assistant certification at the time of hire, certification must be obtained within 12 months of the date of hire as a condition of continued employment.Certification and Licensing: (Proof upon application):Medical Assistant Certification (Any one of the Certifications below)Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Certification from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)®Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (Certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT)Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) (Certification from National Healthcare Association (NHA)National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) credential is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) obtained by the National Association for Health Professionals.
