The Electrical Engineer, under the direction of the Engineering Manager, researches, develops, plans and designs electrical and electromechanical products in the context of electric buses.Specific ResponsibilitiesActivities may involve but are not limited to electric vehicle components, control systems, and energy storage systems. Design and modify products or systems, applying knowledge of engineering principles. Develops electrical products by studying internal and external customer system requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials. Evaluates electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of electricity and materials to make appropriate recommendations to modify designs or repair equipment as needed. Oversee, plan and coordinate activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, testing, and repair of electrical or electromechanical products and systems. Utilize blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer’s installation manuals to complete assigned projects. Perform detailed calculations to establish standards and specifications; perform initial and ongoing design reviews. Research and analyze test and supplier data. Survey electrical systems, circuits, and plans. Work with vendors to find the best available components and systems. Complete work orders and record material utilized on jobs. Submit a scope of work for each project that includes budgetary numbers and the goal of each project. Keep current with the latest technical innovations in electrical transport systems. Remain in compliance with current National Electric Code and other applicable codes. Additional cross-functional duties as needed. Required QualificationsA bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering. Strong fundamental AC and DC current theory. Classroom exposure to C or C++Understanding of CAN protocol is a plus. Working knowledge of PLC systems is a plus. Vehicle experience as a profession or hobby a plus. Organized, detail oriented, and accurate recordkeeping/documentation skills. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Must be able to:Spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers.
