You’ll collaborate closely with artists, designers, and developers to bring product designs to life, update existing features, and squash bugs as they pop up. You'll also work with our backend API when necessary to ensure student game data is saved, loaded, and reported to teachers reliably and efficiently.\nIn this role, ensuring the code you write is high-quality, scalable, and adheres to best practices is essential. Your contributions will span the entire codebase, requiring you to maintain an organized task list, provide regular progress updates, and write technical documentation for the features you develop. Additionally, you'll help improve our development process by participating in code reviews and collaborating with other members of the team.\nResponsibilities\nWork within existing systems to update and maintain minor features with guidance\nWrite code that works within existing systems as well as innovate within those systems to improve functionality and performance where possible\nDebug and resolve issues related to game functionality and performance with minimal guidance\nConsistently write high-quality, scalable code that adheres to best practices, requiring minimal corrections during code review\nOptimize game performance for the code you write across multiple platforms, including Web and iOS\nActively participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and incorporating feedback into their own work\nCollaborate with artists and designers, translating straightforward visual and design requirements into functional game elements\nBuild features that integrate with our backend API with guidance\nWrite comprehensive technical documentation for features you work with, as well as updating and improving existing documentation when necessary\nDebug and resolve basic issues related to game functionality and performance with supervision\nRegularly attend code reviews and collaborate with other developers to get code to a production-ready level\nMaintain a clear and up-to-date task list, providing regular progress updates during check-ins and standups\nWork closely with the team lead implementing straightforward product designs\nWrite basic technical documentation for features you build, focusing on completeness and clarity\nWho we’re looking for:\nYou care deeply about early childhood education and training the next generation of programmers\nYou have 3+ years of professional Unity development experience in a production environment\nYou have 3+ years experience building applications in an actual programming language such as JavaScript, Python, etc.\nYou have 3+ years working with C#\nYou have released, or been a significant part of the public release of a game (doesn't need to be anything major, but ideally something that got a few thousand users)\nHighly Preferable (but not required) if:\nYou have 1+ years experience with 2d game development\nYou have experience with networking and interfacing with server-side code (saving/loading data, offline syncing, etc)\nYou have experience building and deploying multi-platform games (deploying to Web and iOS, for example)\nBonus Points if:\nYou have experience with REST APIs (creating or consuming)\nYou have experience with game design\nAbout Kodable\nKodable was founded to fill a gap in education currently affecting over 250 Million kids around the world.
