As a flagger, you will ensure the safety and flow of traffic in work zones. You will be responsible for setting up traffic control zones, adjusting work zone equipment, and responding to emergencies and hazards. You will also play a critical role in upholding quality, delivery, safety, and responsiveness requirements, ensuring that the company's operations run smoothly and without incidents.\n\nWhat you will be responsible for:\n\nTraffic Control Setup:\n\nSets up, adjusts, and dismantles traffic control zones according to approved traffic control plans and site requirements.\nPlaces and retrieves signs, cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices.\nDirects vehicle and pedestrian traffic using clear and precise hand signals and approved stop/slow paddles.\nMaintains awareness of changing traffic conditions and adjusts traffic control measures as needed.\n\nSafety and Compliance:\n\nPerforms all work in accordance with OSHA, Oregon OSHA, and company safety policies and procedures.\nEnsures traffic control activities comply with ODOT standards and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).\nResponds appropriately to emergencies, hazards, and unsafe work conditions.\nParticipates in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident investigations as required.\nReports all injuries, incidents, near misses, hazards, and non-compliance concerns immediately.\nMaintains a safe work environment for employees, contractors, motorists, and pedestrians.\n\nReporting and Communication:\n\nCommunicates effectively with dispatch, supervisors, clients, and team members regarding assignments and worksite conditions.\nReceives daily job assignments and confirms availability as required.\nUses appropriate communication tools, including smartphones and navigation applications, to support job performance.\nDemonstrates professionalism and effective de-escalation when interacting with the public.\n\nEquipment and Worksite Readiness:\n\nMaintains and properly uses required personal protective equipment (PPE).\nEnsures all required traffic control equipment is available and in good working condition.\nTravels reliably to assigned worksites throughout the Portland Metro Area.\nUses navigation tools such as Google Maps, Waze, or Apple Maps to arrive on time to assignments.\n\nWhat you get from us:\n\nMedical, dental and vision insurance after 90 days.\nFree flagger certification upon hire.\nIncremental raises.\nAn amazing culture where you will feel supported and recognized for your work.\n\nWhat we need from you:\n\nValid Oregon Flagger Certification (or willingness to obtain certification upon hire).\nKnowledge of traffic control procedures and work zone safety standards preferred.\nUnderstanding of OSHA, Oregon OSHA, and MUTCD guidelines preferred.\n\nWhy Universal Group?\n\nThe Universal Group is driven by our purpose to provide Peace of Mind to both our clients and team members.
