Posting Number P2207 Job Title Adjunct Faculty - General Metallurgy Students Only No Job Description SummaryEXPECTATIONS AND NATURE OF THE POSITIONThe primary responsibility of this individual is to provide instruction to Western students enrolled in General Metallurgy courses in Rock Springs, Wyoming. The successful candidate will teach General Metallurgy classes taught in Rock Springs, Wyoming at the Western Wyoming Community College Campus. This person must be able to relate to a wide variety of students; students range from high school students with little background to employees who have worked many years in industry.It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective, competent manner and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this positionPRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE1. Provides quality instruction to students in assigned courses in General Metallurgy2. Provides quality learning experiences both in the classroom and in the hands-on labs for all students enrolled while maintaining the integrity of the course's standards and objectives.3. States clear objectives and criteria for each course in the course syllabus; follows the Curriculum Committee's guidelines regarding course syllabi; integrates the appropriate College's learning goals into each course; evaluates students' performance and annually assesses student performance in light of these objectives and criteria.4. Teaches courses in a variety of environments and modes. Examples include teaching in the evening; developing and teaching customized short courses tailored to the needs of local industry; teaching in the standard classroom, lab and through alternative methods, such as internet, or a combination of these methods.5. Designs and implements effective learning processes for students; provides feedback on student improvement in attaining the WWCC Goals for Student Success.6. When needed, collaborates with the School of Manufacturing & Industrial Technology Dean and the Center for Teaching and Learning Department to design courses or training that meets the needs of local industry; meets with training directors or others from local construction industry, responding promptly to inquiries by phone or e-mail, and accompanying the Director of Workforce Development, at times, on visits to local construction companies.7. Learns to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, including the e-mail and calendar system, MyWestern, Canvas, and word processing; integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.8. Refers students to the resources in the College Learning Center, Peer Tutor Center, Net Tutor, Library, Mustang Success, and Wellness and Accessibility.9. Submits syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner. Regularly check email and respond in a timely manner to the School Dean, Department Facilitator, etc.10. Participate in annual Adjunct In-Service, all departmental assessments, Title IX and other trainings.Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSAcademic Credentials:* Bachelor's Degree in the metallurgical engineering, metallurgical sciences or related field and (2) years of discipline-specific professional experience.* Related Disciplines: Basic understanding of metals and their behavior under service conditions commonly encountered in industrial plant or pipeline environments. Materials Science and Engineering, welding technology, and process optimization.Equivalent Experience:* Associate's degree in metallurgical engineering, metallurgical sciences, or a related Industrial or Manufacturing Technology program and four (4) years of discipline-specific professional experience. OR* No degree but has eight (8) years of discipline-specific professional experience.Other Qualifications1. Comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, technologies, principles and practices of metallurgy.2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, local industry and administrators.3. Ability to exercise sound judgment in all facets of the student-teacher relationship and to teach a diverse group of community college students.4. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.5. Evidence of continued professional development.6. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Wyoming driver's license.Equivalency StatementFor those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be acceptable.Preferred QualificationsPREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience)1. Experience using active approaches to learning; experience using alternative methods of learning, such as interactive software, Internet, or individualized modular programs.2. Active participation in relevant professional organizations.3.
