The qualified candidate will prepare, process, analyzes and manage geospatial data to support a variety of environmental assessment, restoration, and habitat modeling projects. The candidate will use geographic information systems (GIS) to manage geospatial data and provide maps for various projects. Requires proven proficiency with the technical aspects of processing and managing large and complex geospatial datasets. Familiarity with coastal, marine, or freshwater geospatial topics are desirable. The candidate should be able to work effectively with a team of scientists from remote locations, set and meet deadlines, and work independently to complete milestones in a timely manner. The NOAA Habitat Mapping Team is an interdisciplinary research group of contract and federal employees within NOAA's National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (http://coastalscience.noaa.gov/), a nationally recognized scientific research program that conducts spatial ecological analysis, statistical modeling, ecological forecasting, and predictive ma\nResponsibilities:\nDevelop and maintain project GIS databases\nCreate GIS maps and conduct data analysis using various software platforms, tools, and scripts\nCreate geoprocessing workflows using scripts or other automated techniques\nDevelop and implement data management workflows\nOrganize and input data into databases, maintain accurate detailed records of observations, measurements and results\nCreate, edit, and transform geospatial data to suit project requirements and various software platforms\nExtract, convert, and project vector and raster data from a variety of different sources and sensors at various spatial scales\nDevelop metadata and prepare technical documentation describing workflows and geoprocessing\nWork in the field to collect geospatial data using a variety of environmental instruments and sensors\nWork collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to other relevant projects as directed.\nQualifications:\nBachelor's degree in geographic information systems, geography, earth science, computer science, or closely related field\n8 years of professional experience performing geospatial analysis, GIS data management, geospatial project coordination, and/or spatial modeling\nExperience with data preparation, data management, workflows, cartography, and spatial analysis, and coordinate reference systems\nExperience with compiling and manipulating raster datasets\nProficiency using Python or other similar scripting languages to manipulate data and develop reproducible workflows\nProficiency with ArcGIS Pro\nAbility to maintain focus on routine and repetitive tasks, and strong attention to detail and task tracking\nEffective verbal and written communication skills\nAbility to be flexible in responding to changes in schedules and job priorities\nAble to work in a team environment\nAble to work on a small boat collecting and/or managing geospatial data\nExperience with basic computer programs such as excel and word\nAble to work in the US without sponsorship\nAt CSS, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and merit-based workplace.
