Coordinates packaging procurement activities to assure competitive supplier\nselection, and develop competitive supply strategies to support lean manufacturing processes.\n\nPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES\nEngineers packaging solutions based on product technical and geometrical characteristics, to preserve product\nintegrity throughout the entire supply chain, optimize transportation mode and meet material handling guidelines in\nthe distribution operation, and point of use at vehicle assembly plant.\nDevelops packaging engineering specifications by providing required technical details, generate engineering\ndrawings, provide material specifications, operator instruction for product handling and preparation, design\nprotective measures to provide adequate protection to high risk components and product loading patterns.\nEngineering analysis, test and design of various basic to complex packaging solutions based upon product and\ncompany product development needs.\nCoordinates testing and validation activities by designing testing protocols, evaluate and interpret data to support\npackaging design effort.\nPerforms packaging VAVE activities to identify cost savings opportunities and improve packaging performance.\nAnalyzes product engineering specifications, customer specific requirements and manufacturing solutions to define\npackaging strategy that will support optimum supply chain solution for new programs.\nConducts packaging project management activities to support new program launch readiness and corporate program\nmanagement events.\nProvides program packaging requirements to support program packaging budgets, and coordinate packaging\nprocurement activities within program approved budget.\nDevelops specialized container packaging specifications, including geometrical configuration, material selection,\nperformance requirements, and internal partitioning to be used by suppliers in developing mass production\npackaging solution. Responsible for sample evaluation, design approval and vendor selection.\nSupports internal business unit bidding process, by providing packaging proposals for new programs:\nProvides preliminary packaging estimations (SWOT) and costs.\nEvaluates customer requirements, manufacturing strategy, and logistic strategy to define packaging concepts.\nParticipate in kick off, development, and program meetings.\nPerforms root cause analysis and implements corrective actions to address packaging quality concerns reported\nduring mass production throughout supply chain.\nSupports EMS/QMS, Corporate and departmental policies.\n\nREQUIREMENTS\n\nDegree Requirements: BS Packaging degree or equivalent experience\nPrevious Experience:5-10 years previous experience in Packaging Engineering\nTravel Requirements: Domestic and International as required, up to 40%\nLanguage: English / Spanish (preferred)\nSoftware: Microsoft Office Applications\nOn Call Requirements: As necessary\nPhysical Requirements: Office position – primarily sedentary.
