Assistant Grower and Maintenance Technician
The Assistant Grower & Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in the daily operation and upkeep of greenhouse production systems, ensuring optimal plant growth and facility functionality. This position requires a balance of horticultural expertise and technical maintenance skills to sustain high-quality crop production while maintaining and repairing essential equipment and infrastructure.Maintenance & Facility OperationsEnsure the greenhouse remains operational by performing upkeep, improvements, and repairs.Maintain, troubleshoot, and service mechanical and electrical equipment, including PLC and relay logic controllers.Perform electrical installations and repairs, including circuit boards, switch panels, wiring, and lighting.Monitor and maintain water/irrigation systems to ensure optimal function.Conduct preventative maintenance on production lines and prioritize repairs to minimize downtime.Operate and maintain equipment such as tractors, scissor lifts, and skid steers.Assist with general facility maintenance, including PVC pipe work and welding (TIG, Stick, MIG).Schedule and coordinate repairs with vendors as necessary.Skills & QualificationsEducation & Experience:Associate degree (or equivalent) in Technical Education (HVAC, Electrical), Engineering, Horticulture, or related field (bachelor’s degree preferred).2+ years of experience in greenhouse operations, agriculture, or facility maintenance.Bilingual in English & Spanish.Technical SkillsKnowledge of irrigation systems, greenhouse climate control, and plant nutrition.Experience in electrical work, including troubleshooting motors, controls, and switches.Ability to perform plumbing, welding, and HVAC system maintenance.Proficiency with computer applications such as Excel, Word, and inventory tracking systems.Physical RequirementsOccasional lifting of materials weighing up to 70 pounds with assistance or mechanical equipment.Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending and standing for extended periods of time.Willingness to work in outdoor elements and respond to emergency maintenance situations.Availability for weekend and holiday shifts as needed.Preferred QualificationsExperience in commercial greenhouse operations.HVAC and generator maintenance experience.This role requires a hands-on, solution-oriented professional with strong leadership skills and a commitment to maintaining both plant health and facility functionality.
