Water Maintenance Worker I

Under the general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, employee will assist in the daily operation of the water and wastewater collection system as well as other public works duties.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: NoneESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Assists in the operation, maintenance, repair and location of water/wastewater facilities and other utilities within the CityAssist with chemical treatment of potable waterCollects Required samples for the water systemStreet/road repair, mowing/maintaining City properties, installing/removing signs, and miscellaneous jobs to meet the City's needsOperates various heavy equipment, including but not limited to, backhoe's, trenchers, dozers, skid steers, and gradersAvailability to work overtime when neededMust be able to wear City approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Performs all other duties as assignedREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Effective Oral and written communicationWork well under pressure, prioritize projects and detail/deadline orientedAdheres to departmental, personnel, and safety policies and procedures MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: Valid Texas Drivers LicenseObtain a TCEQ Class D Water License within first year of employmentObtain a TCEQ Class I Collection License within first year of employmentPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; must be able to handle, grasp, feel and reach with hands and arms; must be able to communicate effectively. Employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, confined spaces; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
