Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) performs a wide range of laboratory tests on patient specimens to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This role ensures the accuracy and reliability of test results while maintaining strict adherence to quality control procedures and regulatory standards.Job ResponsibilitiesFollow the laboratory's procedures for:Specimen handling and processingTest analysesReporting and maintaining records of patient test resultsMaintain records that demonstrate proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimensAnalyze specimens using approved testing proceduresReview and release test resultsFollow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelinesFollow established policies and procedures when test systems are not within acceptable performance levelsIdentify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of resultsCorrect problems encountered or immediately notify the supervisorQualificationsRequired:Education:BS in Medical Technology preferredBS/BA in Chemistry or BiologyAssociate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical TechnologyPreviously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493Certifications:BLS certification required or must complete within the first two weeks of employmentPreferred:ASCP Certification1 year of clinical experience (high complexity testing)Infection ControlInitial and ongoing training in infection control.
