Employees are eligible for a step increase on their anniversary date each year, up to the maximum step 5 of this salary range ($6,222).Job SummaryUnder direction, plans, directs, and provides building custodial services at an assigned elementary or other school facility; and performs related work as assigned.Essential DutiesPlans, oversees, and performs cleaning and minor maintenance work to provide a comfortable, secure, and safe environment at an elementary school or other school facility with similar responsibilities.Inspects school grounds and classrooms for proper cleanliness, maintenance, health and safety conditions; reports any concerns to a site administrator.Performs appropriate removal and clean-up of organic waste, including human waste; may assist in the containment of some hazardous materials brought on to a school campus. Oversees and participates in sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors.Vacuums, shampoos, and cleans carpets. Cleans and disinfects restrooms including toilets, urinals, basins, and mirrors.Dusts and polishes furniture.Washes windows, interior and exterior walls.Performs minor painting to cover graffiti and badly soiled areas. Disposes of trash and cleans grounds areas by picking up litter and cleaning sidewalks and blacktop areas. Performs minor building maintenance work, reports the need for major repairs, and enters work orders into a computer.Maintains the site custodial information folder and ensures it is accessible and up-to-date. Orders custodial supplies and materials; receives and stores supplies and equipment. Coordinates and sets up furniture and equipment for special day and evening activities; moves furniture and materials as needed. Assists with unloading food service and warehouse deliveries; retrieves, moves, and stores delivered items.Trains new and substitute custodians. Assists in developing work schedules. May need to respond to emergency calls at the site outside of regularly scheduled work hours. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSEducation and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of experience (equivalent to full-time work) in school custodial work. Part-time experience will be considered and adjusted appropriately. Any other combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.Knowledge OfMethods, materials, and equipment used in school custodial work.Appropriate techniques for handling, cleaning, and disposing of various types of waste, including protection from bloodborne pathogens.Ability to:Perform simple building maintenance and repair work.Follow oral and written instructions.Keep simple records.Operate heating and ventilation equipment.Train and direct the work of other custodians.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, students, and the public.Learn to use a computer to input work orders and maintain documents.Handle frequent interruptions and accommodate changing needs.Use good judgment in dealing with unusual situations.SELECTION PROCEDURESApplications will be accepted from district employ­ees who possess the above qualifications.
