The people residents trust when they walk in frustrated, confused, overwhelmed, or simply needing someone patient enough to explain the process.Those are exactly the people we’re looking for.What You’ll DoPermitting & Administrative SupportAssist residents, contractors, developers, and business owners with permitting and zoning-related questionsProcess permit applications and related documentationMaintain accurate permit records, files, databases, and tracking systemsCoordinate permit intake, routing, approvals, and issuanceSupport scheduling and coordination related to inspections and permitting activitiesPrepare reports, correspondence, notices, and other documentation as neededProvide front-line customer service in person, by phone, and electronicallyPublic Education & Customer SupportA major part of this role involves helping members of the public understand processes that may feel confusing, stressful, or unfamiliar.You’ll:explain permit procedures, zoning requirements, and application processes in a clear and approachable wayassist residents with navigating forms, documentation, and next stepsprovide patient, compassionate customer service to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levelsprovide additional guidance and reassurance to residents who may be unfamiliar with permitting, zoning, or municipal processeshelp de-escalate frustration by listening carefully, communicating clearly, and guiding people toward solutions whenever possibleThis role requires empathy, patience, professionalism, and the ability to balance policy compliance with excellent public service.Zoning & Community Development SupportAssist with zoning applications, compliance documentation, and related administrative processesReview applications for completeness and compliance with established proceduresHelp maintain public records and documentation related to zoning and permitting activitiesSupport ordinance reviews, public hearing preparation, and related administrative researchRespond professionally and compassionately to questions from the public and project stakeholdersCollaboration & Customer ServiceBuild positive working relationships with municipal staff, contractors, developers, and community membersHelp create a smooth, organized, and customer-friendly permitting experienceSupport department operations through strong communication, organization, and follow-throughAssist with special projects and additional administrative support as neededWhat We’re Looking ForPreferred QualificationsExperience in permitting, zoning, planning, municipal administration, community development, construction administration, or related public-sector support rolesStrong customer service and communication skillsExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentComfort working with databases, permitting software, Microsoft Office, and digital record systemsAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively with a teamHigh level of professionalism, initiative, and follow-throughThe Ideal Candidate Is Someone Who:genuinely enjoys helping peoplecommunicates clearly and patientlyremains calm and compassionate during difficult interactionsunderstands the importance of public trust and professionalismcan explain complex processes in a way that feels approachable and respectfulvalues both accuracy and empathyExperience working in municipal government or public-facing community development environments is highly preferred.
