Working alongside engineers and an assigned mentor, the intern gains hands-on exposure to engineering practice in an aerospace and defense environment while contributing to real project deliverables and building technical and professional skills.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nAssist engineering staff with design, analysis, testing, and documentation tasks on assigned projects.\nSupport data collection, reduction, and reporting for engineering tests and experiments.\nParticipate in design reviews, team meetings, and project status updates.\nCreate and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and procedures as directed.\nUse engineering tools and software (e.g., CAD, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or equivalent) to complete assigned tasks.\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design Engineering, Test Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality.\nMaintain accurate records of work performed and communicate progress to the assigned mentor/manager.\nAdhere to EMCORE's safety, quality, and export control policies and procedures.\n\nMinimum Qualifications:\n\nCurrently enrolled in an accredited degree program (Associate's, Bachelor's, or Graduate level) in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field.\nMinimum GPA of 3.0, or as otherwise approved by the hiring manager.\nBasic proficiency with engineering or scientific software tools appropriate to the assigned discipline.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to work on site in Concord, CA per the schedule and hours outlined in the Intern Contract Details section below.\nApplicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship (U.S. citizenship or Permanent Residence).\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\nFamiliarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks), MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools.\nCoursework or project experience related to sensors, optics, or space/defense hardware.\nExperience with test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, multimeters).\nPrior exposure to an aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing environment.\n\n*This job description is not an exclusive or exhaustive list of all job functions that an employee in this position may be asked to perform from time to time. Emcore reserves the right to revise or change job duties and responsibilities as the need arises.\n\nIntern Contract Details:\n\nThe ideal candidate will work 16 to 24 (not to exceed 29) hours per week on site in Concord during typical business hours (7:00am – 5:00pm). Exact schedule will be finalized with the Hiring Manager/Supervisor during the interview and offer of employment process. Hourly compensation is $20.00 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly payroll cycle. Employee Health benefits are not included. The designated time period for this internship begins as soon as possible, with a contracted end date of December 31, 2026. Employment beyond this date will be based on evolving business needs and continuous review of candidate performance.
