Controller
POSITION SUMMARY: The Controller requires an unwavering commitment to accuracy, integrity, transparency, and the ability to present complex financial information. The Controller will collaborate and partner with cross-functional teams and leverage their expertise to ensure that our financial operations align industry best practices and compliance. The Controller is a leader who can establish quick credibility and build a stable, high-functioning accounting team to support the next phase of company growth. The controller will manage the accounting team and all accounting functions of the business including financial statements, general ledger, invoicing, revenue recognition, job costing, A/P, A/R, inventory, treasury, cost management, financial controls, expense management, reconciliations and other accounting and financial functions. Qualified candidates will have accounting management experience in an industrial, manufacturing and/or service setting, preferably in a controller or comptroller role. Technical GAAP understanding is necessary for proper financial statement reporting. RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS: Manage and support the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust, accountability, and productivity; motivate, train, and mentor team members to achieve their maximum potentialStep into the role with authority and earn trust through consistency, clear communication, and follow-through; serve as a stabilizing force through organizational changeAssess the current team quickly, identify strengths and gaps, and develop a near-term plan to close themManage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirementsDevelop, implement, document, and maintain financial controls, guidelines, and consistent accounting policies with a continuous improvement mindsetImplement robust internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows; regularly review and update to adapt to new regulations and business needsServe as the go-to expert for technical accounting matters; prepare detailed accounting memos and policy write-ups to guide staff on the latest standards and best practicesDirect and participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities with a goal of 100% accuracy and timely reporting; manage close calendar to bring predictability and discipline to the cyclePrepare Percentage of Completion and construction accounting each month for proper financial statement presentation; ensure job cost reporting is accurate and completeLead the external audit process from planning through completion; serve as primary point of contact for external auditors; conduct thorough testing of financial systems and controlsChampion finance transformation by identifying opportunities for automation; lead projects aimed at streamlining financial processes using technology and reducing manual effortPartner with operational managers to establish appropriate warehouse inventory levels; assist with physical inventory planning, execution, controls, and accuracy auditsSupport budget and forecast cycles with accurate, timely actuals and variance analysis; provide ad hoc financial analysis and decision support to senior leadership and PE sponsorsEnsure timely and accurate local, state, and federal government reporting, tax filings, annual 1099s, W-2s, and liability payments; coordinate with external tax advisors Help support short and long-term financial and operational strategies aligned with PE ownership goals ATTRIBUTES: Natural leader who establishes credibility quicklyProficient in MS Excel and Word; experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP or Epicor preferred, but equivalent enterprise ERP experience requiredProactive, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and reliable; able to work both independently and collaborativelyMaintains strict confidentiality regarding employee, financial, and customer informationCommunicates respectfully and proactively with all levels of the organization, as well as with external stakeholdersStrong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage high work volume with minimal errorsAssesses situations quickly, makes decisions, and adjusts as neededResilient and composed under pressure; thrives in dynamic, growth environmentsAbility to multitask across competing projects Physical Demands include, but are not limited to:Must be physically able to perform work assigned.This role is primarily in an office setting.
