A national leader among colleges and universities in promoting a Christian worldview and a Christ-centered approach to education, Union is consistently ranked among the nation's premier Christian universities.Essential Job Duties* Teach applied flute, ensemble coaching, woodwind techniques, and woodwind pedagogy. Candidate must have the ability to teach Musicianship/Aural Skills and Woodwind Improvisational Techniques in a variety of styles.* Courses include:MUS 150 Applied Lessons Freshman (Flute)MUS 250 Applied Lessons Sophomore (Flute)MUS 350 Applied Lessons Junior (Flute)MUS 450 Applied Lessons Senior (Flute)MUS 155, 255, 355, 455 Woodwind Chamber EnsembleMUS 238 Woodwind MethodsEmphasis in: Flute Performance Techniques, Woodwind Ensemble coaching, and Woodwind Improvisation techniques* Provide direction and supervision for student chamber groups as assigned.* Perform in Faculty and University ensembles as directed.Other Job Duties Required QualificationsGraduation from an accredited college or university with a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance, Flute Pedagogy, or equivalent, and experience teaching undergraduate-level private flute is required. This position also requires the ability to work in a team leadership setting and strong collaborative skills. The ability to teach Music Theory and Aural Skills courses are preferred. The candidate must also have the ability to perform in a variety of music styles, including but not limited to classical music, popular and rock music styles including improvisation, and jazz or blues.Preferred QualificationsPreference will be given to applicants with a Ph.D. or D.M.A. in Flute performance, Flute Pedagogy, or equivalent. Extensive solo, symphonic, and/or chamber music performance experience and teaching experience at the college level and/or the commercial industry is also preferred.Christian RequirementSuccessful candidates must be professing Christians who are active members of a local church, enthusiastically support Union University's Identity, Mission, and Core Values, and articulate a Christian worldview in their work and life. It requires the ability to operate a computer, and communicate on the telephone and in writing.
