ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Engage children in activities and play that stimulates all areas of development. • Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe. • Assist children with activities of daily life (e.g., diapering/restroom use, feeding, dressing) • Communicate with parents effectively about their child(ren) daily routine. • Work with the lead teacher to monitor the class schedule. • Assist with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipment. • Revise lesson material with students individually or in small groups. • Ensure the classroom environment is safe and clean. • Oversee students during non-classroom times during lunch, and on field trips. • Collaborate with lead the teacher to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions. • Document student progress and communicate with parents to keep them informed. • Comply with state, school, and class rules and regulations. • Attend all training classes, parent conferences, and team meetings. ASSESS CHILDREN: • Assess children on a regular basis. • Take pictures and maintain anecdotal notes, written observations, and other approved forms of documentation for each child. TEENA’S FAMILY CHILDCARE TEACHER ASSISTANT CURRICULUM PREPARATION: • Be willing to collaborate with the team to incorporate required activities into lesson plans that support children’s development • Help Lead Teacher prepare activities that support lesson plans. COMMUNICATE WITH PARENTS: • Maintain open communication with parents by scheduling and conducting parent/teacher conferences. • As a parent advocate, help resolve issues or concerns that are raised. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS • Must be at least 18 years of age • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent education • Have at least 1 year of experience working with children and/or a certification in early childhood education or currently working towards the completion of one. • Submit to various background checks including those completed through the DHHS. • Be CPR and First-Aid certified. • Complete a Tuberculosis Test and physical and provide a physician’s documentation of both • Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children alone in a classroom • Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences • Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities. • Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, and carry children up to 70lbs. • Have dependable transportation • Attend and engage in occasional parent participation events and other events that may be on nights and or weekends. PREFERRED SKILLS Customer service oriented and professional. Be able to multitask.
