We seek a Systems Librarian to join the Description and Imaging team within our Collections department. This role provides knowledge and expertise in software programming and analysis, specializing in library technologies and services, and supports discovery and access to the Folger's print and digital collections. The Systems Librarian will ensure that the catalog, related services, and systems are properly maintained and will design, implement, and maintain system processes and procedures for the library.\r\nThe schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:45 am–4:45 pm. The role may require occasional after-hours work and travel. The position is primarily on-site with openness to a hybrid modality, and the candidate must be within a commutable distance to the D.C. office by start date.\r\nApplications must be submitted by 4:30 PM ET on April 30. Total compensation includes a comprehensive benefits plan, including fully covered health, dental, and vision insurance, and a generous 403b match, as outlined on our website.\r\nDuties and Responsibilities Serve as the technical expert for the library's ILS; maintain and enhance its operations as well as applications that support its service.\r\nProvide leadership in solving problems associated with the ILS and other services.\r\nDevelop and document internal processes and procedures to support library operations.\r\nMonitor industry trends and best practices related to library technology and recommend improvements to tools and workflows as appropriate.\r\nCollaborate with the Associate Librarian on long-range planning for the library, including recommending system changes or updates.\r\nCollaborate with librarians and colleagues across the department to support various library services.\r\nCollaborate with IT to ensure systems are properly supported and to address any potential issues.\r\nEducation and Experience Master's degree in library or information science, or equivalent combination of education and experience.\r\nMinimum of three years' experience with integrated library systems (ILS).\r\nProgressive experience in technical analysis, enterprise systems deployment, complex system configuration, or technical implementation of library systems and services.\r\nExperience with project management.\r\nProgramming experience in support of library-related systems.\r\nSkills and Knowledge Working knowledge of library business processes and automation.\r\nFamiliarity with library metadata standards including MARC and other common library tools.\r\nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with staff across the institution.\r\nAbility to support and communicate with persons at all levels of technical ability.\r\nStrong organizational, analytical, and abstraction skills.\r\nDemonstrated ability to learn new technologies and adapt to change.\r\nCommitment to an inclusive environment for staff and library users.\r\nCommitment to fostering a collaborative work environment with diplomatic, adaptable, and pragmatic problem-solving approaches.\r\nAbility to work creatively in a rapidly changing environment, set priorities, and meet deadlines.\r\nWorking Conditions/Physical Requirements This position operates in a professional office and library/museum environment. The employee may be exposed to typical office conditions.
