This group is responsible for aggregating data across lines of business and building systems that assess trade exposure risk—essentially answering “what happens if something goes wrong with a trade?”\nThis is an ongoing need, not a short-term project. The work sits close to portfolio managers and risk stakeholders, so there’s real business impact.\nWhat You’ll Be Working On\n\nBuilding and enhancing applications used for:\nMarket Risk Regulatory Reporting\nVaR (Value at Risk) analysis\nLimit Management\nCounterparty and issuer risk\nPulling and processing large datasets across multiple systems\nSupporting the full lifecycle:\nDevelopment → UAT → Production release → Post-release support\nCollaborating with:\nBusiness Analysts during UAT\nProduction Support during releases\nRisk and portfolio management teams\nCore Tech Stack\n\nPrimary: Python (≈85% of the role)\nUI: React (or similar frontend tech)\nScheduling/Workflow: Quartz (preferred) or alternatives like Athena\nDatabases: SQL / NoSQL, Sybase, DB2, Oracle\nOther:\nUNIX / shell scripting\nGit (or similar version control)\nMust-Have Skills\n\nStrong Python development experience (multi-threading, ORM, Flask/Django)\nSolid understanding of React or other UI frameworks (not heavy frontend, but must be comfortable)\nExperience with Quartz or similar scheduling tools\nStrong SQL skills with relational databases\nExperience working in data-heavy or risk-related environments\nAbility to support applications end-to-end (development through production)\nNice to Have\n\nExposure to Market Risk systems or financial services\nExperience with Big Data processing frameworks\nIdeal Candidate Profile\n\nMid to Senior-level engineer\nBackground in Python-heavy backend development with some UI exposure\nExperience working on enterprise-level applications (enhancements, migrations, or new builds)\nComfortable in a fast-moving, high-stakes financial environment\nInterview Process\n\n3 rounds total\nIncludes 1 onsite interview\nWork Setup\n\nHybrid: 3 days onsite per week\nNo fully remote option\nAbout Matlen Silver For over 40 years, Matlen Silver has delivered solutions to complex talent and technology challenges for Fortune 500 companies and industry leaders.
