Parks and Recreation Aide 4-6 - Summer Seasonal (SCSP)

Description Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Supervisor and higher-level managers, the Park and Recreation Aide will be responsible for grounds upkeep, general facility maintenance, and visitor experience at Shirley Chisholm State Park. Daily upkeep of the park facility, including opening or closing gates, securing park at the end of the day, picking up debris and litter, garbage removal, snow and ice removal, cleaning shared restrooms and common spaces, trail maintenance, landscaping, weeding, mowing and tool/equipment upkeep. Patrol the park grounds on foot or in a state vehicle as assigned to maintain a safe and secure presence, report conditions, assist visitors, and enforce park rules. Direct traffic within park entrances, keep pedestrian crosswalks clear, ensure continuous flow of traffic in parking lot and main entrance. Staff entrance booths, greet Park patrons in a friendly and courteous manner, track visitation, assist with directions and clearly communicate key information like park rules, operating hours, areas of interest, or address patron concerns. With training and supervision, employee will operate and perform routine maintenance and minor repair work using a variety of hand and small engine or power-driven equipment including mowers, leaf-blowers, and weed whackers. Occasionally assists with public programming, seasonal events, maintenance, and operations projects onsite, and throughout the NYC region. Other duties may be as assigned as needed.Qualifications Minimum Qualifications NO MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS TITLE PER CIVIL SERVICE.Preferred Qualifications Experience with customer service, maintenance, and/or horticulture Bilingual, Spanish language proficiency.Operational Needs Additional Comments Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor and must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Must be willing to work outdoors, in all weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
