Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to achieve patient-focused outcomes. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or regulatory agencies. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Regular attendance to perform work on site during scheduled business hours or shifts is required. Description: In this position, the Registered Nurse has primary responsibility and accountability for the nursing care and safety of patients undergoing endoscopic and/or invasive procedures with or without sedation. This nurse demonstrates skills in interpersonal relationships, critical thinking, and efficiency. The nurse serves as a resource to students and new caregivers and is involved in the quality improvement process. Collaborates with the Pre-operative care RN to assess the holistic patient needs and procedure requirements and performs ongoing assessments and documents changes from baseline status. Develops, implements, and communicates a plan of care that prescribes the nursing actions and priorities to achieve the patient's plan of care goals. Responds to the comfort needs of the patient and patient/family requests for health information as appropriate. Uses principles of aseptic practice in varying situations and monitors compliance within the surgical team. Initiates corrective action when breaks in techniques occur. Supports, educates, and reassures the patient and their families. Integrates and internalizes theoretical knowledge into clinical expertise. Develops focused assessment and critical thinking skills and utilizes evidence-based research to guide practice and enhance positive patient outcomes. Develops and modifies individualized plans of care. Communicates changes in the plan of care to the patient and healthcare team. Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing care and participates in activities to improve patient care and the healthcare environment. Participates in the advancement of the nursing profession through contributions to practice, education, administration, and research. Documents the use of equipment and supply consumption for accurate charging and inventory management. Assists with inventory management to control inventory volume and availability. Promotes mission, vision, and values and abides by service behavior standards. Performs other duties as assigned. May float to other departments under the Perioperative umbrella. Occasionally may float to other nursing units based on business need.
