DescriptionAmerican Traveler is hiring a CT Technologist for a 13-week contract at a teaching hospital in Maine, requiring a minimum of 1 year of CT experience and ARRT (R) CT certification.
DetailsWork in a CT Scan department at an 89-bed teaching hospital
1 CT room, 3 x-ray rooms (2 general, 1 fluoro/pain clinic)
Serves ED, outpatient, and inpatient populations; primarily adult/geriatric with some pediatric patients
Common CT cases include oncology, general abdominal pain, post-surgical, and trauma; biopsies performed with training provided
X-ray cross-coverage includes fluoroscopy, C-arm in OR, ortho and ortho trauma, ICU, MedSurg, and ER (chest X-ray, abdominal scans, vascular)
Average of 25–30 patients per day
EMR: Cerner; PACS: Enterprise Imaging AGFA
CT equipment includes Siemens X.Cite and GE 16-slice PET CT (backup); experience with Siemens and GE preferred but not required
X-ray equipment includes Siemens, T-Rad, Canon Ultimax Hybrid C-arm (fluoroscopy/pain clinic), and Phillips and Siemens C-arms and portables in OR
12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Schedule is primarily Monday–Friday; weekend shifts may occur when weekend staff are on PTO, typically with advance notice
Schedule is set in 6-week increments by the manager
No on-call required
Holiday coverage done in rotation with other staff; typically 50–75% of holidays within the contract period
May float between CT and X-ray, including OR portable coverage
RequirementsMinimum 1 year of CT experience required
ARRT (R) - CT, BLS, and Maine state license required; license required if applicable
Experience with CTA studies and general CT studies
IV start skills required; biopsy experience highly preferred
OR/C-arm and fluoroscopy experience highly preferred, though facility will train candidates who are comfortable learning these skills
Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
Must be comfortable working with adult, geriatric, and pediatric patient populations
Must have a full SSN
Driver's license required for consideration
2 references within the past year required; at least one must be from a supervisor, manager, or director (charge nurse acceptable; peer references not accepted)
Copies of all certifications required for consideration
Additional InformationFirst-time travelers are welcome to apply
Candidates must have a permanent address 100+ miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME; travelers residing 100+ miles north may be considered on a case-by-case basis
Candidates must not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity
Flu vaccination is required for clearance; medical exemptions only are accepted and must be submitted at least 2 weeks in advance for committee review
Orientation is 1–1.5 weeks based on comfort level, with a standard new employee orientation (NEO) included
Department support includes a lead tech, internal transport, 2 CT techs on weekdays and evenings, and 1 tech on weekends; radiologist is on-site until 4:30–5:00 PM, then switches to remote service
All RTO requests must be submitted to and approved by the manager
Solid-color scrubs required; hospital-issued scrubs also available
