DescriptionThe Lead NDT Quality Specialist is primarily responsible for conducting NDT and Welding Inspections and training according to specific codes and procedures to ensure quality, in existing and fabricated components. This individual will also establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection. Additionally, this individual will have the skills and knowledge to plan, organize and present classroom. Lead position – Generally has more than 15 years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. A Lead specialist has a broad knowledge of the field's standard and technical concepts, practices and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of standard complex, and technical tasks; is self-starting and requires no supervision. Essential FunctionsModels and reinforces company policies/practices to ensure work is performed in alignment with the company's mission, vision and values and in collaboration with other Holt functionsProvides a significant amount of task and behavior-oriented mentoring, and training to other NDT Specialists to obtain quality workmanship and efficiencyInspect and document components coming into the facility, weld quality, fit up and layout of the product, and results of inspections of large componentsAssemble the final inspection report document for the componentsProvide internal/external clients with recommendations following inspectionsProvide feedback to CAT Support Manager or Shop Supervisor to improve quality and productionCollaborates with management in making decisions, recommendations, commitments, and implements new ways of approaching projectsDevelops procedures and techniques for performing inspectionsProvides recommendations and approval for equipment needed to perform tasks, consulting CAT Support Manager on larger purchasesWorks overtime as required by workload and customers' needsWorks safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standardsRequires regular and punctual employee attendancePerforms other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesCritical thinking and problem-solving skillsAbility to think logically for interpreting and analyzing problems assigned or encounteredExtensive knowledge of Non Destructive Testing methodsEffective influencing skills and leadership skills which includes motivating and developing customers and employeesAbility to develop welding procedures and techniques for the training of welding personnelAbility to communicate both verbally and in writing with both internal and external customersThe ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentencesKnowledge of personal computers and working knowledge of Microsoft Office productsQuality control analysis skills – conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality of performance and communicate findingsRequirementsEducation and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent with additional specialized/technical training preferredMore than 15 years work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is preferredNDT Testing Level 3: Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle, Penetrant, VisualMultiple Welding Certifications Supervisory Responsibilities:None Travel: Up to 25% travel required with overnight stays of up to three nights per monthAdditional Requirements:Current and Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License required, with an acceptable driving record Physical Requirements:Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 poundsPeriodic sitting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, balancing, climbing, and reachingFrequently communicates with customers, CAT Support Manager, Shop Supervisor, and co-workersRoutinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work Work Environment:May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidityRequires wearing common protective or safety equipmentRegularly works outdoor around moving mechanical partsExposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high speed rotating equipmentDisclaimer: Please note that the above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
