Develop, implement, and maintain enrichment programs for shelter animals including playgroups for dogs. Develop or maintain community outreach programs, as well as be a liaison for community outreach. Keep necessary records on volunteers and all programs, including any and all training, updated volunteer handbooks, and volunteer job descriptions, training materials, required forms, and coordinate all volunteer/enrichment/community scheduling and events.\n\nExample of Duties\nWork in this classification requires an individual to be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Since every duty associated with this classification may not be described herein, employees may be required to perform duties not specifically spelled out in this classification description, but which may be reasonably considered to be incidental in the performing of their duties just as though they were actually written out in this description.\n\nTYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:\nPrepare departmental and other reports as required.\nServe as liaison with community organizations, businesses, and schools.\nWrite and distribute volunteer/shelter newsletter.\nRecruit, train, and supervise shelter volunteer force, including CAVIT students.\nDevelop and maintain volunteer training and program materials as well as volunteer schedules.\nTrain volunteers and staff on enrichment/playgroups for dogs, as well as maintain the programs as on going.\nMaintain volunteer personnel records.\nOperate as community liaison and community activities and provision of educational programs.\nTo promote and adhere to the workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork to help enrich lives beyond expectation.\nMaintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records and restricted County information.\nMust have the ability to travel for training conferences if needed.\nPerform other related duties as required.\n\nMinimum Requirements\nMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:\nHigh school diploma or GED equivalent.\nThree (3) years of experience working with animals.\nValid Driver's License with Arizona Driver's License within 30 days of hire.\nOr an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.\nSupplemental Information\nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:\nKnowledge of basic laws, statutes, and ordinances governing animal control issues.\nKnowledge of regional animal care resources available to citizens.\nSkilled in exercising patience, care, and compassion in dealing with animals.\nSkilled in animal handling.\nAbility to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS:\nThe work can be physical and requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including handling dogs on and off leash.
