Responsibilities:\n\nJob Summary:\n\nWe are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Embedded Linux Software Developer to join our team at the Naval Research Lab (NRL). The ideal candidate will play a key role in developing, maintaining, and optimizing embedded systems, with a focus on secure Linux-based platforms. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement software solutions that enable innovative and efficient embedded devices.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nDevelop and maintain embedded Linux systems for various applications.\nDesign, implement, and debug software components using Linux-based technologies.\nCustomize and build Linux distributions using the Yocto Project, OpenEmbedded, or similar frameworks.\nIntegrate open-source and proprietary software into embedded systems.\nProvide guidance on embedded Linux best practices, including configuration, kernel optimization, and security.\nCollaborate with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software components.\nPerform system analysis, profiling, and debugging to ensure performance and stability.\nProvide documentation and technical support throughout the development lifecycle.\nQualifications:\n\nRequired:\n\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent\nMinimum of 5 years' experience, BS 5-7 Years, MS 3-5, PhD 0-2\nProven experience in developing embedded Linux solutions.\nProficiency with the Yocto Project or similar build systems such as OpenEmbedded or willingness to learn\nExperience in C/C++ programming for Linux environments.\nStrong understanding of Linux kernel internals, device drivers, and board bring-up processes.\nHands-on experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).\nAbility to debug and troubleshoot software and hardware integration issues.\nSolid understanding of operating system concepts, memory management, and inter-process communication (IPC).\nMinimum DOD SECRET security clearance with the ability to obtain a TS\n\nPreferred:\n\nFamiliarity with container technologies (Docker or Podman)\nFamiliarity with Wind River Linux or other commercial embedded distributions.\nExperience with real-time or low-latency Linux system configurations.\nKnowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation.\nUnderstanding of network protocols and embedded system security concepts\nEqual Pay Act: This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
