Phlebotomist II-Internal Medicine

Phlebotomist IIThe primary purpose of this position is to provide phlebotomy services to patients of all ages. This role includes performing venipunctures and finger sticks, processing medical laboratory tests, performing CLIA Waived tests and documenting results for the diagnosis and prevention of disease while adhering to the regulatory requirements.Specific Responsibilities:Clean and stock specimen collection areasMonitor lab schedule for appointment arrivals and escorting patients to the labPractice proper patient identificationCollect specimens from patientsReview all lab orders for accuracyReview all specimen processing instructions for accuracyRequisition and processing samples, including centrifuging and any special processing instructionsPrepare samples for pick-up from reference lab(s)Prepare samples for point of care testingPerform point of care tests per manufactures instructionsDocument point of care results timely and per policyEscalate abnormal and critical results per policyConsistently practice infection prevention control standardsPerform sterilization of surgical and non-surgical instrumentsRun quality controls on all required testingMaintain quality control logs and patient result logs per MAHEC guidelinesMonitor and respond to EHR messaging, and voicemails timelyActively embraces and supports divisional and organizational initiativesSupports other MAHEC labs as neededServes as a back-up for clinical team members as neededThis role description is a general description of the essential job functions. Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic health record.Foreign Language: Spanish speaking skills preferred.Lab: Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, and tests. Knowledge of medical laboratory safety and infections control policies. Knowledge of medical laboratory equipment.Physical Demands:Light - Moderate energy level: Lift and carry 25 - 35 lbs, Push/Pull 50 - 100 lbs (empty bed, stretcher, etc.)Occasional (0 - 33% of Workday)Supervisory Responsibilities:Not applicable.Education and Experience:Minimum Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited phlebotomist program.Preferred Qualifications: 1 year of phlebotomy experience in an ambulatory setting with patients of all ages.Required Licenses:Current BLS CertificationSchedule:Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours are Monday Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.Position Compensation:$20.63 - $21.83/hour, based on level of experience.
