The Software team builds the software that runs it all.\n\nAbout the Role\n\nWe’re looking for a Software Engineer to build the AI platform behind fab2.\n\nThis is a greenfield role with broad ownership across our AI stack. You’ll build the infrastructure and agent systems that turn engineering knowledge and workflows into useful tools for teams across fab2.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nBuild the infrastructure for using AI models across cloud providers and our own on-prem compute.\n\nDevelop agents, shared skills, MCP servers, and sandboxed execution environments.\n\nCreate evals and benchmarks to measure where agents work, where they fail, and how to improve them.\n\nTurn engineering knowledge and repeatable workflows into shared AI tools teams can build on.\n\nDevelop AI systems for automated experimentation, defect detection, engineering analysis, and fab operations.\n\nExplore systems that can analyze results, propose what to do next, and eventually interact with physical equipment.\n\nHelp shape how AI gets used across Fab2 and inside the fab.\n\nRequired Experience\n\nStrong software engineering fundamentals and experience shipping production systems.\n\nComfortable working across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and data.\n\nEffective with AI coding tools while still able to read, write, debug, and reason about code independently.\n\nStrong product instincts and an ability to turn ambiguous problems into working systems.\n\nStrong technical communication and a high degree of ownership.\n\nNice-to-have\n\nFounding engineer, CTO, or early-stage startup background.\n\nExperience building AI agents, developer tools, evals, or ML infrastructure.\n\nHands-on work with GPU or on-prem compute infrastructure.\n\nExposure to robotics, hardware, scientific computing, or automated experimentation.\n\nExperience building software for regulated environments.\n\nWorking at fab2\n\nWe’re an early-stage hardware startup with solid funding, world-class advisors, and labs/offices in Austin, TX, Lockhart, TX, and San Francisco, CA.\n\nCompensation: fab2 is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The annual salary range for this role is $140,000 – $200,000. Compensation is determined based on your qualifications and experience.
