This is an ILWU Local 6 union role.\nResponsibilities Perform operational checks, repairs, and modifications to site utilities such as the ammonia plant, chillers, chill water systems, boilers, steam & condensate distribution systems, compressed air systems, water treatment systems, purified water systems, WFI systems, cooling towers, etc.\nAssist in performance of routine, unscheduled, and preventative maintenance and modification jobs on all site utility systems.\nExecute LOTO of utility systems and equipment with guidance from Senior or “A” level central utility personnel or department Supervisor.\nAssist in troubleshooting, including basic electrical or instrumentation troubleshooting of equipment that is not performing to standards and make the necessary repairs to get optimum performance from the equipment.\nResponsible for compliance with all Engineering standards and practices, cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices), data recording and reporting of work orders.\nResponsible for supporting and complying with Bayer Berkeley’s commitment to health, safety, and environmental protection initiatives and programs.\nParticipate in reviews regarding repairs, replacements, failure analysis, installations and modifications of equipment.\nPerforms other duties assigned.\nQualifications High school diploma, or GED PLUS a minimum two (2) years of industrial maintenance experience, and/or an equivariant combination of minimum one (1) year applicable Military or Merchant Marine experience plus relevant field experience.\nRead, write, speak, and comprehend English in order to understand written and verbal instructions, SOP’s, BPR’s, etc.\nDemonstrated ability to troubleshoot utility systems without assistance.\nGood verbal and written communication skills.\nWork weekends, holidays and overtime as required (including 10‑hour shifts as needed and on‑call).\nAcceptable attendance and performance.\nWork independently and self‑directed with minimal supervision.\nPossess proficient: Understanding of process control systems related to site utilities.\nKnowledge of refrigeration systems, boilers and site/central utility systems and is able to develop Energy Control Plans for the LOTO of utility systems and equipment (knowledge of other trades: Instrumentation, Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC/R).\nRead and understand equipment drawings, schematics, and technical manuals at a proficient level that allows determining OEM part numbers required for maintenance.\nExperienced using multi‑meters for checking AC/DC voltages, amperage meters on AC/DC circuits.\nComputer skills – required to navigate through building automated systems which interface with utility equipment.\nKnowledge of test equipment and chemistry to perform water quality tests for cooling towers.\nIf primarily assigned to the Ammonia Plant – must be able to obtain RETA certifications.\nSAP knowledge and proficiency in writing and execution of SAP notifications.\nUniversal Refrigeration or Boiler Operations Certifications are a plus.\n\nPhysical Qualifications: Must be able to lift up to ≤75lbs. and push/pull up to ≤650lbs. with assistance.\nClimbing required up to ≤30feet and/or ≤3 stories.\nMust be able to work from ladders.\nMust be able to identify color‑coded labels.\nMust be able to wear protective clothing as required, including passing fit tests and medical evaluations required to be qualified to wear respiratory protection.\nMust meet Occupational Demands/ Physical Requirement checklist.\nExtensive standing, squatting, kneeling and walking.\nHepatitisB vaccine recommended.\n\nShift This is a swing shift position (4-10hour days).\nCompensation & Benefits Employees can expect to be paid a union wage of $53.02 per hour. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation (if relevant).
