As lead engineer, responsibilities include total delivery of the electrical deliverables and services on time, within performance budget and meeting quality expectations. Duties may include performing advanced engineering work serving as a technical specialist for complex engineering assignments. Work at this level requires extensive progressive experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering and involves utilization of project controls for cost, schedule and quality of projects. This work will be performed under minimal supervision.\nPrimary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:\nReviewing and approving all electrical deliverables.\nValidating professional service and construction estimates at the beginning of a project, and then tracking changes as the project progresses.\nProducing professional service estimates in accordance with the department standards for project deliverables, project studies and estimates, change notices and for the development of new work through proposal efforts.\nEstablishing the design criteria, incorporating client requirements, estimate and/or scope basis and design basis meeting applicable state, local and federal standards and codes. Ensuring that any requirements for permitting have been established and communicated to the project team.\nKnowing your scope and deliverables. Initiating timely change notices when deviation is made from your scope, affecting schedule, deliverables or cost of the work.\nPlanning and organizing the work of your team. Communicating the plan to your team, the project leadership team and the client.\nMaintaining control of the project by tracking and maintaining discipline performance budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards. Understanding and utilizing the project tools that are in place for project control.\nDelegating work to engineers and designers in proportion to their technical skills and experience, then following up for support to ensure efficient progress and quality.\nConsulting with design leaders from other disciplines in proportion to their technical skills and experience, then following up for support to ensure efficient progress and quality.\nProducing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-off suitable for the level of estimate being performed on a project.\nDeveloping conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.\nFamiliarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.\nProducing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project. Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others and efficient use by drafters/designers for preparing drawings and as a deliverable when required.\nProducing project designs with efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and completed product meeting the expectations of the client.\nChecking calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and conformance to good engineering practice.\nProducing construction specifications.\nMonitoring drawings in progress to ensure conformance to design calculations and specifications.\nAssisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems. Ensuring that sufficient sketches and details are provided for completion of engineering drawings.\nReviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for electrical input.\nProducing bid packages enabling electrical purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.\nParticipating in the planning of training programs, continuous education opportunities and professional development of staff.\nAbility to identify and develop work sharing packages for interoffice execution support. Provide leadership to ensure communication and execution of work within scope, schedule and budget.\nThis position offers a highly competitive compensation package, including paid time off, health insurance benefits, and matching retirement contributions.\nIdeal Background\nEducation: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.\nRegistration: Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.\nExperience: This position requires 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience in electrical engineering.\nRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nKnowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).\nAbility to determine Hazardous Area Classification based on API RP 500 and/or NFPA 497.\nAbility to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.\nAbility to perform voltage drop calculations.\nAbility to perform and review electrical system studies using ETAP/SKM/EasyPower software. Studies include short circuit, load flow, motor starting & breaker coordination.\nAbility to calculate tray and conduit fill.\nAbility to perform equipment sizing, develop specifications, requisition packages, technical bid evaluations and vendor print reviews for various electrical equipment like emergency generators, busduct, MV & LV switchgear, MV & LV MCCs, power & distribution transformers, DC & UPS systems, Power Distribution Centers (PDC), and cables.\nFamiliarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.\nAbility to determine transformer, switchgear, motor control center, UPS and emergency generator loading.\nAbility to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.\nAbility to determine load center unit substation loading.\nAbility to develop equipment specifications for equipment such as motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, emergency generators, load center unit substations, etc.\nKnowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables.\nAbility to produce a 15kV power system single line diagram.\nThis includes Main Tie Main switchgear with automatic transfer.\nFamiliarity with 15kV power system equipment and installation techniques both above and below ground.\nAbility to develop equipment specifications for 15kV/5kV equipment such as switchgear, load break switches, motor control centers, etc., and capable of performing calculations for required short circuit and overcurrent protective device ratings.\nAbility to develop electrical installation specifications.\nAbility to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.\nAbility to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.\nAbility to determine construction material quantities.\nDevelop design criteria and scope of work.\nExperienced in estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing the progress and quality of electrical work.\nComplete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform engineering and design functions.\nAbility to lead a small team to deliver on commitments.\nAbility to deliver convincing presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services.\nProficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.\nGood communication skills, both verbal and written.\nVirtual team skills and relationships are developed, and able to provide interoffice execution leadership and support.\nPhysical Requirements\nAbility to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.\n#LI-MM2\nHargrove Culture\nWe work to create an environment founded on trust, personal integrity, and a “team mentality” so that each person understands the value of their contributions both on a project and company-wide level.
