I&C Engineer
The Instrument and Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, commissioning, and support of industrial automation systems. Core focus areas include PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, system commissioning, and long-term system support. This role spans multiple industries and platforms and may involve responsibilities ranging from hands-on execution to technical leadership and oversight, depending on experience level.The responsibilities below reflect the full scope of the role at a senior level. Not all duties may apply to entry-level or lower-tier positions.Required Technical ExperiencePlantPAx system experiencePLC programming, primarily Allen‑Bradley RSLogix and Studio 5000SCADA and HMI development, primarily Ignition, AVEVA, and FactoryTalk ViewCore ResponsibilitiesPLC ProgrammingDevelop and modify PLC code ranging from discrete logic to full system programsDefine and implement UDTs and AOIsReview, guide, and oversee work performed by other engineers or programmersHMI and SCADA DevelopmentDevelop operator interface and HMI applications using standardized objects and templatesCreate graphics, UDTs, reusable templates, and full HMI solutionsConfigure HMI platforms, historians, reporting, and related infrastructureProvide technical direction and review for HMI development effortsCommissioning and Field SupportExecute and oversee IO checkout, loop testing, and signal validationConfigure PLC firmware, communication modules, VFDs, and instrumentationLead commissioning activities and execute system test plansProvide on-site and remote system support as requiredTechnical DocumentationAuthor and review training materialsDevelop control narratives and functional test documentsProvide oversight and direction for documentation produced by othersProject and Technical LeadershipProvide oversight and support for project management activitiesCoordinate technical execution across disciplines and project phasesMentor junior engineers and enforce engineering standards and best practicesAdditional Skills and Experience (Preferred)Experience with secondary or tertiary PLC or HMI platformsGAMP or regulated industry knowledgeCertifications relevant to automation, controls, or safetySales or business development exposureStrong system configuration skills for PC OS, OITs, and industrial networksDepth of experience demonstrated through time in industry or progression of responsibility
