The lecturer will teach approximately 7 courses (two per quarter across fall, winter, and spring), with courses including collaboratively taught Introductory Biology for life science majors, an Exercise Physiology laboratory course for non- majors, and upper-division laboratory courses in Human Physiology and Neurobiology. Specific assignments will align with academic qualifications and programmatic need. The position starts September 1, 2026 and is an in-person appointment.Basic QualificationsPh.D. in Neurobiology, Physiology, Cell and Molecular Biology, or a closely related field (required).Experience teaching life sciences at the university level (required).Evidence of excellence in teaching upper-division laboratory courses to life-science majors (preferred).Willingness and potential to teach introductory biology collaboratively with other faculty members on a team (preferred).Excellent communication skills (required).Preferred QualificationsExperience with inclusive pedagogical practices that promote access and academic success for all students.Experience teaching and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate students.ResponsibilitiesTeaching (95%)Conduct and appear at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared manner that demonstrates command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively.Assign and evaluate assignments that align with the course description and learning outcomes, and provide timely feedback to students.Hold weekly office hours.Submit student grades that are accurate and fair to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline.Administer numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses.Teach from an approved syllabus for the University Core courses or work with the Chair to design an appropriate syllabus for approval by the relevant Faculty Core Curriculum Committee.Serve as an advisor to a reasonable number of students commensurate with the full-time equivalency of the appointment.Develop courses for which responsible and contribute to general curriculum development.Service (5%)Attend department meetings and serve on committees.Advise student organizations and honor societies.Take part in student recruitment and orientation efforts.Contribute to accreditation or program assessment.Service expectations must be commensurate with the full-time equivalency of the appointment.
