Preference will be given to those applicants with work or lived experience with culturally, linguistically and racially diverse communities.\nPOSITION SUMMARY: The Educational Assistant – ELL provides educational supports through supervision and instruction for English language learner (ELL) students under the direction of licensed staff; completes routine clerical tasks for teachers; and serves as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with limited English-speaking persons.\n\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS\nEducation, Training, Experience, Licensure and Certification\nExperience Required: Prior job-related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children\nEducation Required: Completed associates or higher degree, completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 college quarter hours or more) or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics\nLicenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance and First Aid/CPR card.\n\nKnowledge of:\nDesignated language (written and oral)\nPrinciples of child development\nInstructional practices\n\nSkill in:\nPerforming basic clerical functions and basic arithmetic calculations\nOperating standard office equipment as well as computer programs and applications (e.g. email, system applications, word processing, etc.)\nCommunicating effectively in English, both verbally and in writing (e.g. correct spelling, grammar and punctuation)\nRead/interpret/apply rules, regulations, and policies\nUnderstanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions\nRapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations\nFunctioning as a self-starter, who works well independently or in a team\nPlanning, prioritizing and completing assignments with minimum supervision\nHandling multiple projects, and tasks to meet deadlines\nInteracting with persons of different age groups and cultural backgrounds\n\nESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS\nWorks under the guidance and direction of the teacher with access to assistance and consultation\nWorks collaboratively by assisting teachers in assessment, supporting curriculum, student interactions, enforcing safe behaviors, and enhancing social growth of student in the school setting.\nProvides instructional support to students in large groups, small groups, and one-on-one situations.\nAdministers tests and language assessments under the guidance of a classroom teacher or resource teacher for the purpose of evaluating student’s language ability\nConfers with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing of students' objectives\nPerforms record keeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling, copying, etc. to support teachers in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials in the students' primary language\nRecords student progress in language acquisition for the purpose of documenting student performance and maintaining updated records\nTranslates verbal and written communication/s for the purpose of assisting students, staff and parents in communicating effectively\nHelp support students in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults\nEvaluates situations to take appropriate action and/or direct the situation to the appropriate personnel for resolution\n\nOTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:\nAssists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completing of their work activities as it relates to the ESL program\nParticipates in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving skills and knowledge\nAssists with the transportation needs of students, including walking them to and from the bus, and assists with arranging for the transportation needs of students\nPerforms other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor within the scope of their job\n\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:\nAbility to:\nSit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time o talk and hear conversations in a potentially noisy environment o use precise control of fingers and hand movement, often in a repetitive motion such as keyboarding o reach for and handle objects o use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus\nFocus on a computer screen\nBending, stooping, kneeling and lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds may also be required on occasion\n\nWORKPLACE EXPECTATIONS\nMaintaining regular and punctual attendance.
