Job Title:LifeguardLocation: Redmond Pool, Redmond, WAOrganization: Wave AquaticsReports to: Operations Director or Lifeguard CoordinatorEmployment Type:Part-Time, Non-exempt or Full-Time, Non-exemptWave Aquatics is seeking entry-level lifeguards who do not possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification to fill the role of Lifeguard at the Redmond Pool in Redmond, WA.Wave Aquatics will provide the opportunity for candidates to become certified Lifeguards free of charge prior to employment. Candidates must be able to pass Red Cross Lifeguarding Course prerequisites:Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping for rest:Jump in the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breast stroke or a combination of both (swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed).Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:Starting in the water, swim 20 yards (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).Submerge to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound objectReturn to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.An evaluation of the prerequisites will be completed as part of the interview process. Successful candidates will be offered employment contingent upon completing the Lifeguard Course and obtaining a certification prior to employment.Job Summary:Lifeguards ensure the safety and well-being of all guests at Wave Aquatics swimming pool facilities. As a lifeguard, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent guest services while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. You have a responsibility to maintain a safe environment and possess the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.Key Responsibilities:Enforce pool rules and regulationsPrioritize safety of everyone in the facility at all timesActively scan and be fully attentive while guarding on stand to Red Cross Safety StandardsComplete cleaning tasks when off stand and stay emergency-ready at all timesExecute Emergency Action Plans correctly and quickly in the event of an accident or injuryPrepare facilities for upcoming programs (lane lines, bulkhead move, equipment, etc.)Perform daily checks of safety equipment (backboard, rescue equipment, First Aid kit, etc.)Monitor pool water chemistry through water testing; ensure that all required chemical checks are happening and recorded appropriatelyPerform maintenance duties to maintain a clean and safe facilityProvide excellent in-person and over-the-phone customer service to all guests who enter the facilityReport and advise all concerns to the Pool DirectorsAttend all in-service trainingsComplete opening and closing facility proceduresComplete incident reports, accident reports, theft reports, and vandalism reports as deemed requiredAbide and uphold all policies and procedures set forth by the Wave Aquatics Handbook Qualifications 16 years of age or olderHigh School Diploma or GED (In Progress OK)Proven swimming ability with a strong understanding of water safety practicesAbility to obtain an American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR Certification prior to the start of employment (Wave will provide the course and opportunity to become certified free of charge)Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidaysStrong communication skills with the ability to interact positively with guests of all agesAbility to perform heavy lifting (up to 75 pounds) as required for equipment handling and maintenance tasksCapable of responding calmly and effectively in emergencies Work Environment: Pool Facility Atmosphere: The work environment includes pool areas, which can be warm, humid, and noisy due to activity in and around the waterPhysical Demands: The role will be located at the swimming pool.Role will require standing, walking, and lifting equipment or supplies up to 75 pounds. There may also be occasional exposure to chemicals used in pool maintenance (e.g., chlorine) and wet or slippery surfacesSafety Awareness: The employee must be aware of water safety rules and regulations and work closely with other staff to ensure a safe environmentVariable Hours:Schedule may require flexibility and could include early morning, evening, or weekend shifts Compensation and Benefits: Hourly Pay: $17.50 - $21.50 per hourEntry-level lifeguards are hired at $17.50 per hour.Lifeguard in good standing are eligible for raises based upon number of hours worked. Guards in good standing receive a $0.50 raise at 200, 500 and 1000 hours worked, and every 1000 hours after their first 1000 hours, up to the pay range maximum.Benefits: Employees who regularly work more than 30 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental and vision benefits.
