PhlebotomistJob Category: Clinical Support Requisition Number: PHLEB001536Posted: September 3, 2025Full-TimeOn-siteChesapeake, VA 23320, USADescriptionSummaryThe Phlebotomist is responsible for blood specimen collection from patients of all ages in accordance with the department and hospital's safety policies and procedures.Duties and ResponsibilitiesThese duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.Collect blood specimens from venous and capillary sites using approved equipment and proceduresIdentify patients per established patient identification protocolsUtilize the laboratory and hospital computer systems to run and audit collection lists, sort the workload, and follow up on pending dispatch specimensAccession blood and body fluid specimens by entering appropriate data into the computer and labeling per established protocolsComplete pre-analytical processing steps by centrifugation when appropriate and delivering specimens to the technical departments for testingProcess specimens for reference labs by centrifugation, aliquoting, and completing order entriesUtilize proper isolation techniques according to hospital policyUtilize the Hospital Information System accurately while performing all functions assigned to this job classificationAttend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-servicesDemonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient careEducation and ExperienceMinimum Required Education: High school diploma or equivalentExperience: Recent working experience as a Phlebotomist is preferred, but will consider new graduatesCertified as a Registered Phlebotomist (CPT), Medical Assistant, EMT or Paramedic preferred.
