Job Title: Deputy Superintendent for Operations (K-12)Position SummaryThe Deputy Superintendent for Operations serves as a key member of the Superintendent's executive leadership team and is responsible for the strategic planning, oversight, and management of all non-instructional operations of the school district. This includes facilities, transportation, safety, technology, food services, and other support services to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality learning environments.Primary ResponsibilitiesOperational LeadershipProvide leadership and supervision of all district operational departmentsDevelop and implement long-range operational plans aligned with district goalsEnsure efficient use of resources to support student achievement Facilities & MaintenanceOversee maintenance, custodial services, and capital improvement projectsLead planning for construction, renovation, and bond projectsEnsure compliance with safety, health, and regulatory standards TransportationDirect student transportation systems, including routing, safety, and fleet managementEnsure compliance with state and federal transportation regulationsMonitor efficiency and cost-effectiveness of services School Safety & SecurityLead district-wide safety planning and emergency preparednessCoordinate crisis response protocols and trainingCollaborate with local law enforcement and emergency agencies Technology ServicesOversee district IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and instructional technology supportEnsure reliable systems for learning, communication, and operationsGuide long-term digital strategy Food & Nutrition ServicesSupervise school nutrition programsEnsure compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., USDA programs)Maintain financial sustainability of food services Budget & Financial Oversight (Operations)Work with Chief Financial Officer on operational budgetsMonitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities in collaboration with Chief Financial OfficerCollaborate with CFO/business office on financial planning Policy & ComplianceEnsure operational compliance with local, state, and federal lawsDevelop and enforce district policies related to operationsPrepare reports for the Board of Education Vendor & Contract ManagementOversee procurement processes and vendor relationshipsNegotiate contracts for services and capital projectsEnsure accountability and performance standards Leadership & Personnel ManagementSupervise directors and department leadersRecruit, evaluate, and develop operational staffFoster a culture of accountability, service, and continuous improvementSteps in as needed in absence of Superintendent due to travel, illness, etc.Collaborates with Director of Human Resources on personnel issues.
