This is a high-impact role and you’ll be working with a large variety of product engineering teams across the company.\nWhat You’ll Be Doing:\nAdministration, operations, and performance tuning of Vitess-managed MySQL datastores ,with a focus on large-scale, sharded environments\nArchitecting new Vitess-based MySQL database infrastructure on bare metal\nDelivering managed data platform solutions as a service that facilitate adoption and offer operational elegance\nWorking closely with product engineering and infrastructure teams to drive adoption of services throughout the company\nInstrument and monitor services developed to ensure operational performance\nCreate tooling and automation to reduce operational burdens\nEstablishing best practices for development, deployment, and operations\nDriving adoption of services throughout the company\nInteract with developers and teams to resolve site and database issues\nWhat We’ll Expect From You:\nExperience supporting MySQL (ideally with Vitess or other sharding solutions) in a production environment, with in-depth knowledge of backups, high availability, sharding, and performance tuning\nDistinguished track record developing and automating platform solutions that serve the needs of other engineering teams\nExperience with other data technologies such as Kafka and Redis\nFluency in SQL, Python, Bash, or other scripting languages\nExperience with Linux performance troubleshooting\nExperience with configuration management tooling such as Chef & Ansible\nWhat We’d Love You To Have:\nAn understanding of using ProxySQL and Kubernetes\nFamiliarity with continuous integration tools such as Concourse, GitHub Actions\nSome familiarity with Go readability\nPassion for production engineering done in a resilient fashion\nYou have a passion for not repeating yourself (DRY) by way of automation\nWhat Will Not Be Expected From You:\nDemonstrated expertise in being a ‘data scientist’ - this role has much more production engineering focus\nCrunching mundane support tickets day over day - be the Automator\nFollowing a lengthy and strict product roadmap - engineers wear product hats as needed and help define what platform gets built\nWhy You’ll Like Working for DigitalOcean:\nWe innovate with purpose.
