Company DescriptionThe École is an independent French-American bilingual school serving an international community of students from Maternelle through Middle School in New York City’s Flatiron District. The school offers a rigorous bilingual program and enrolls more than 370 students from Pre-Nursery through 8th Grade (ages 2–14).We are recruiting a 4th Grade American Head Teacher for a maternity leave replacement during the first semester of the 2026–2027 school year (Monday, August 24, 2026, through Friday, December 18, 2026).ResponsibilitiesWorking closely with a French co-teacher, the American teacher will:Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction in English Language Arts, mathematics, and social studiesCreate and maintain a nurturing, supportive, and engaging classroom environment\Build strong partnerships with families through open and collaborative communicationMaintain accurate records of student progress and assessment dataUse assessment data to inform instruction and differentiate learningUphold safety and security protocols for students, staff, and visitorsStay current with research and best practices in elementary educationParticipate in supervision duties, including lunchRequirementsStrong knowledge of elementary education principles and developmentally appropriate practicesEnthusiastic and engaging presence with elementary-aged childrenExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and studentsStrong organizational and planning skillsAbility to design, implement, and assess curriculum for diverse learnersWillingness to engage in professional development and implement new instructional practicesEducation and ExperienceTeaching certification and/or degree in educationMinimum of two years of recent elementary teaching experiencePreferred: experience in bilingual, dual-language, or international school settingsFrench proficiency is an asset, but not requiredCompensationCompetitive salary ($30,000–$35,000, for 5 months, commensurate with experience) and benefits.Start date: August 26, 2026.
