We mostly reserve the upper half of our compensation bands for internal growth. During your call with one of our recruiters, they can further clarify the salary range and our total compensation.\nOverview\nThe Problem\nAs more cities and private communities adopt Flock's ecosystem, deploying hardware efficiently is our primary engineering scaling challenge. Building a comprehensive planning and customer operations portal that connects urban planning, municipal compliance, and physical deployment requires sophisticated software design. You will engineer core software engines that calculate optimal device placement, automate complex permitting workflows across thousands of jurisdictions, and deliver unified dashboard interfaces for deployment teams and customers.\nWhat You'll Own\nArchitect geospatial tools and routing algorithms that map optimal, effective locations for hardware, drones, and safety devices.\nBuild automated permitting integrations that streamline submissions, tracking, and approvals across municipalities and utility providers.\nDesign unified customer and deployment dashboards that deliver real-time visibility into device installation progress and fleet health.\nDevelop robust backend web services using TypeScript, Node.js, and SQL databases to power real-time planning data interactions.\nDeploy and manage containerized microservices across cloud environments using Docker, Helm, and Kubernetes.\nWhat This Role is Not\nThis isn't a front-end or UI-only engineering role, you will build full-stack web applications, backend services, database schemas, and cloud deployment pipelines.\nThis is not an RF hardware design or field operations position, you will write the software platform that powers hardware deployment workflows rather than managing physical site installs.\nThis isn't a siloed maintenance assignment, you will build zero-to-one planning tools, solve complex geospatial challenges, and directly influence product growth.\nWhat You Bring\nProficiency building web services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.js alongside modern web frameworks like React.\nStrong SQL database skills and practical experience interacting with varied relational data stores.\nHands-on experience containerizing applications with Docker and deploying remotely via Helm to Kubernetes environments.\nPractical working knowledge of cloud services, including AWS S3, API Gateway, and SQS messaging infrastructure.\nCapability using modern AI-assisted engineering tools to optimize personal development velocity.\nCompensation\nIn this role, you'll receive a starting salary between $172,000 and $190,000 as well as Flock Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in depth with you during our first chat.\nWhy Flock\nEvery community deserves to be safe. Flock builds the technology that makes that real: last year we supported over 1 million criminal investigations and helped locate more than 10,000 missing people. We're 1,700 people building the impossible with over $1B in funding, and the expectations are high on purpose. If you want a role where the stakes are real and the pace matches, this is it.\nSome problems get solved faster in the same room, so we prioritize candidates in Atlanta and Boston. Hub-based roles mean real in-person time with your coworkers. Remote roles exist, and when a posting is open to remote work, it says so.\nBuilding the impossible takes every kind of mind. Flock is an equal opportunity employer, and we know the best solutions come from diverse perspectives, experiences, and skills working together with mutual respect. Everyone is welcome to apply. If you need assistance or an accommodation due to a disability, email recruiting@flocksafety.com; your information stays confidential and is used only to arrange the right accommodation for your interviews.\nOn compensation: we pay fairly for the work. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education, training, and market indicators. The range in this posting covers base salary only and doesn't include equity, sales bonus plans where applicable, or benefits. The range may be adjusted over time, and this posting may span more than one career level.\nOne last thing: all legitimate communication from Flock comes from an email ending in @flocksafety.com or noreply@ashbyhq.com. We never make offers through messaging apps or third parties, and we never request payment or sensitive personal information during hiring.
