Athletic Program Director (Swim and Dive)
Position: Athletic Program Director Reports to: Athletic Director Division: Athletics FLSA Status: Professional ExemptEmployed: Seasonal, onsite Direct Reports: Assistant CoachesJob SummaryThe Program Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all aspects of their program, including varsity, junior varsity, and middle school levels as applicable. The Program Director provides leadership that promotes athletic excellence, student-athlete development, sportsmanship, character education, and academic success while supporting the mission and values of the school.The Program Director oversees program development, coaching staff leadership, athlete training, and administrative operations while maintaining compliance with school, conference, and governing athletic association policies.Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership and ManagementPlan, organize, and supervise all levels of the program.Establish and communicate program goals aligned with the school's mission and athletic philosophy.Develop and implement long-term program strategies focused on sustained competitive success and athlete development.Promote a positive team culture emphasizing discipline, respect, teamwork, integrity, and sportsmanship.Coordinate offseason training opportunities, camps, and skill development programs.Coaching and Player DevelopmentDevelop and implement practice plans and competitive game strategies appropriate to athletes' skill levels.Teach sport-specific skills, techniques, and tactical concepts.Promote physical conditioning, injury prevention, and safe training practices.Monitor and evaluate individual athlete progress and provide constructive feedback.Encourage leadership development, accountability, and positive sportsmanship among student-athletes.Student-Athlete WelfarePromote academic achievement and monitor student-athlete eligibility.Ensure the physical, emotional, and mental safety of all athletes.Communicate expectations regarding conduct, attendance, and academic responsibility.Enforce team, school, and athletic department policies consistently and fairly.Staff Leadership and SupervisionAssist in the selection, supervision, mentoring, and evaluation of assistant coaches.Provide leadership and direction to the coaching staff to ensure program consistency.Conduct regular communication with assistant coaches regarding program expectations and development goals.Promote professional growth and adherence to best coaching practices.Administrative and Organizational ResponsibilitiesMaintain accurate program records, including rosters, eligibility documentation, attendance, and equipment inventories.Manage equipment, uniforms, and facilities in coordination with the athletic department.Assist with scheduling practices, contests, transportation, and travel arrangements.Support responsible management of program budgets and resources.Ensure compliance with all school, conference, and state athletic association rules and regulations.Community and Parent RelationsCommunicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, administrators, and school staff.Build positive relationships within the school and community.Address parent and stakeholder concerns professionally and promptly.Represent the school and athletic program positively at competitions and community events.Support community outreach initiatives when applicable.Compliance and Professional ResponsibilitiesAdhere to all safety procedures, risk management policies, and concussion protocols.Maintain required certifications, including CPR/First Aid and coaching credentials.Participate in professional development, coaching clinics, and required meetings.Model ethical behavior, professionalism, and sportsmanship at all times.Key QualificationsEducation and Experience:High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.Previous coaching and/or playing experience in the sport preferred.Head coaching or leadership experience is strongly preferred.Knowledge of sport rules, strategies, and athlete development principles.Additional Skills/Abilities:Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate student-athletes and coaching staff.Strong organizational and time-management skills.Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and administration.Physical RequirementsPhysical Requirements:Ability to stand and actively coach for extended periods.Ability to demonstrate sport-specific skills and drills.Ability to lift and transport athletic equipment.Ability to travel for games, meetings, and tournaments.Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
