Transportation Specialist, Kailua-Kona (Hybrid/Remote)
Position Summary
Hui Mlama Ola N iwi is seeking a safe driver with a caring attitude towards helping others. Our drivers provide non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) for our patients and clients to medical appointments and completes and submits pre-trip and post-trip documentation for recordkeeping. Position requires a positive, people-friendly attitude, current Hawaii driver's license, and a clean driving record. The Transportation Specialist must demonstrate proficiency in office equipment and software, time management, a high degree of organizational skills, and basic math skills.
**Due to the off-site/hybrid/remote nature of this position, Transportation Specialists must adhere to the following:
Must have a dedicated, home office space clear of physical and noise distractions, with a power source, and that can accommodate a laptop and associated accessories.
Will be subject to a mandatory home site visit by the Transportation supervisor to assess the proposed parking area for the HMONO vehicle. Parking area must be covered with secured access.
Transportation services occur Monday-Thursday; On Fridays, Transportation Specialists are required to report the HMONO headquarters, located at 1438 Kilauea Avenue, Hilo, HI 96720.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operates agency vehicle to transport clients and patients to and from medical and medically related appointments.
Safely drives clients and patients to and from treatments and/or appointments using proper care in entering and exiting the vehicle and using appropriate assistance as necessary.
Follows all traffic laws and safety guidelines while operating agency vehicle.
Aids and assists clients to safely enter and exit the vehicle by coming to a complete stop, exiting and opening the door and assuring that they are sitting comfortably in the vehicle with their seatbelts fastened, or the wheelchair secured. **Not responsible for physical transport of clients/patients into and out of wheelchairs.
Accurately documents services provided daily, and uploads documentation into electronic health records system within 36 hours of ride completion.
Ensures HIPAA compliance at all times, exercising the highest standards of physical, verbal, and digital confidentiality.
Ensures that all client enrollment procedures and service protocols are followed.
Informs clients and patients of the safety and comfort rules; uses appropriate methods to enforce regulations stipulated during transport.
Observes and reports to the Program Manager/Director other than usual client behaviors during transport and follows through with detailed, required documentation citing any incidents.
Ensures that there will be no smoking, vaping, or consuming of food or beverages during transportation.
Maintains vehicle safety/maintenance records including daily vehicle inspections, taking vehicles in for repair/maintenance appointments, and obtaining applicable service receipts and documentation for submission to Finance.
Accurately calculates and documents daily mileage, transit times, and timely uploading of required information into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Adheres to all safe driving rules and regulations, specifically, wearing seat belt and hands-free texting and calling while operating the vehicle.
Provides support to Transportation Specialists in other districts as needed to promote teamwork and client satisfaction.
Other duties as assigned.

Must be highly self-directed and able to work independently.
Ability to provide support for transports in other districts as needed.
Basic math skills to calculate transit time and distance.
Knowledge of the assigned district, or the ability to quickly become familiar with the assigned district.
Must be ready and willing to travel to rural areas with uneven access roads and/or minimal signage and be able to navigate autonomously.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
One year of transportation (driving) experience.
Proficient use of office equipment such as PC, laptop, fax machine, scanner, and associated software applications.
Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures.
Licenses/Certifications (Required at all times)
Current State of Hawaii Driver License.
Clean driver's abstract.
